(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- The Hoboken Historical Museum will host a book release and signing for “The Hidden Faces of Hoboken: A Finder’s Guide to the Architectural Heads in Hoboken” by photographer and graphic designer McKevin Shaughnessy. The event takes place on Sunday, February 6th from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
This 72-page full color limited edition hardcover book celebrates the more than 642 architectural heads that adorn more than 104 historic buildings throughout the city. Most date back to the 1880s through the 1930s, and this book will help you find them. It features a detailed map, sites by categories, and 11 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Shaughnessy says, “What I have found is truly mind-blowing. It starts as soon as one sets foot inside Hoboken, in the Lackawanna Terminal, with a bronze lion head drinking fountain. The overall variety is staggering, from family portraits to mythical griffins, bald eagles, imaginary beasts, viking warriors, a sultan, numerous kings, a wolfman, the wolverine, a birdman, princesses and goddesses, cherubs and the like.”
Shaughnessy’s book is the natural follow up to his photography exhibit “The Hidden Faces of Hoboken” that ran in the Museum’s Upper Gallery from March- April 2021. Click here for more information on that exhibit.
Come to the Hoboken Historical Museum on Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 2:00pm-5:00pm to pick up your copy. Shaughnessy will be on hand to sign them and related Hidden Faces keepsakes as well. Books are $45 and a portion of all sales benefits the Museum. The museum is located at 1301 Hudson Street in Hoboken, New Jersey.
