One of the world’s great tap talents, Ayodele Casel is beloved for her musicality, strength, fluid, and generous style. “Chasing Magic,” the latest work from the 2023 Doris Duke Artist Award winner, was developed and first performed in isolation during the pandemic, a celebratory display of artistic encounters and how, after a lost year, they remain right where you left them. Directed by her long-time collaborator Torya Beard, the show features performances by the pianists Arturo O'Farrill and Anibal César Cruz, vocalist Crystal Monee Hall, percussionist Keisel Jimenez, and tap artists Jared Alexander, Amanda Castro, Naomi Funaki, Quynn Johnson, Sean Kaminski, and Dre Torres.
