United Hospital Fund, with grant support from Venturous Theater Fund, released Risky Business: A Guide for Dramatists (and Other Theater Workers) on Finding Affordable Health Coverage and Care, a comprehensive, free online guidebook to help dramatists navigate the often-bewildering world of health insurance, find affordable coverage and care, and become their own best advocates. The guide, though focused on New York, includes thumbnail sketches of coverage resources in other states as well.
(GALLOWAY, NJ) -- Murphy Writing of Stockton University will host the 31st annual Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway at Seaview, a Dolce Hotel from January 17-20, 2025. The weekend event is one of the winter's oldest and largest writers' conferences. Beginning and experienced writers will receive craft discussion, writing prompts, writing time, feedback, motivation and inspiration.
They say Rome wasn't built in a day, but it might have been if Ridley Scott was in charge of that project. The octogenarian shows no signs of halting his career and continues to knock out the sort of epic movies most filmmakers spend multiple years slaving over. It's remarkable that a film as big as Gladiator II is arriving a mere year after Scott's similarly large scale Napoleon. That said, this sequel feels like a product that has been rushed to market rather than one that has had a full 24 years to nail down its story.

Even those who don't know very much about visual art are familiar with the Cubist approach to the human body. Pablo Picasso liked to present a person from many angles at once, and compress three-dimensional form into a two-dimensional frame. No matter what step she's on, that nude descending a staircase comes at us all at once. We know we're looking at an individual person, even if it's never clear which of those fields of color represent the present moment and which are afterimages, projections, and vapor trails. Representing human beings like this guarantees that there’ll be distortions: facial features in strange places, unexpected angles, duplicates and odd subtractions, clashes between heads, necks, and torsos, the shuffling of expressions, and the surprise and disquiet that comes when an obviously human figure doesn't look much like a human at all.

Loss, we've all suffered it. Some of us more than others,some less and still yet there are those of us who've not had loss of any significance to this point. Loss, like anything else, is directly related to perspective. What may seem like a huge loss to one, is insignificant to another. People pass away, bad days do the same, they fade into the night or disappear at the bottom of one's favorite drink until they are swept away by the morning's sunrise and things are new. Some loss stays a bit longer, adding scars to our bodies until they become topographical maps of memories; reminders of what not to do or what we didn't do or should've done.
