Carla will perform a selection of her favorite music genres—including jazz, country, and gospel—to benefit the YMCA of Newark & Vicinity and the Primary Care Scholars Program of Hackensack Meridian Health Medical School.

Literature to Life to Host Spring Benefits in New York City and Washington, DC

Literature to Life (LTL) will host Spring Benefit events in both New York City and Washington, D.C., featuring live performances, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, and more. The proceeds from both events will benefit the organization's extensive work in schools and help Literature to Life expand educational opportunities for NYC- and D.C.-area students. The Washington, D.C. event will take place on Monday, April 28 at the Edlavitch Jewish Community Center and the New York City event will take place on Monday, May 12 at Scandinavia House.



Pushcart Players Awarded Grant from New Jersey Cultural Trust

​​​​​​​The Plainfield/North Plainfield music scene of the 1960s and '70s was prolific with acts such as Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Parliament-Funkadelic, jazz guitar great Harry Leahey, the charting garage-rock bands The Critters and The Doughboys, and the CBGB staple The Rockids. Current-day label Bongo Boy Records' roster includes The Doughboys and The Rockids, both of which have included North Plainfield-raised guitarist Gar Francis, a co-founder of Bongo Boy with longtime partner Monique Grimme.

Jerome China breaks chains. That sounds like a metaphor, but it isn't: China, a sculptor of brawny statues in iron and steel, often includes metal links in his work. Allusions to bondage, the middle passage, and resistance to oppression are hard to miss. Yet China is also drawn to the aesthetics of force. He likes applications of practical physics, and he's sensitive to dramatic gestures. A shattered chain looks cool. It means something strong has met something stronger.

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- This spring, Arden Children's Theatre invites families into a hilariously twisted world where classic fairy tales don't go quite as expected in its next production of the 2025/26 season, The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales (The Stinky Cheese Man). Based on the beloved book by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith, adapted by John Glore, the production brings the book's fractured fairy tales to life for kids and adults alike. Directed by Steve Pacek, the production runs on the Arden’s Arcadia stage with previews starting April 8, opening night on April 18, with performances running through May 31.
