Two River Theater presents New Modern Take on "Romeo and Juliet"

(RED BANK, NJ) -- A World Premiere modern verse translation of Shakespeare's ode to young love hits the stage at Two River Theater from April 8 – April 30, 2023. Romeo and Juliet, the classic tale of star-crossed love, is infused with contemporary vitality by playwright Hansol Jung (Wolf Play, Wild Goose Dreams, Cardboard Piano). Seen in 2020 as part of Two River Theater's Two River Rising online reading series, this Romeo and Juliet was originally commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Play On! Project and will be presented at Two River in partnership with the National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO).

Newark's New Harriet Tubman Monument a Model for Community Engagement in Public Art

The city of Newark, New Jersey unveiled its long-awaited Harriet Tubman monument March 9 with great excitement. Four days of community celebrations and events followed. With visual, audio and tactile components, "Shadow of a Face" is not a statue to view from a distance, but a place to see, hear, touch, spend time and reflect on stories. Designed by Jamaican-born, Montclair-based Nina Cooke John, this unique public art project will be visited, studied, and celebrated for years to come.

Actionplay Audition Workshop Is Accepting Submission from Neurodiverse Actors from Across the Country Until March 20th

Actionplay, a neurodiverse theatre company based in New York, is now accepting applications for their 2023 Audition Workshop. The Zoom-based workshop is open to neurodiverse actors from across the country. The deadline to submit a video audition is March 20, 2023 – there is no fee for participants, and a cohort of up to twelve actors will be selected to participate. The 2023 Actionplay Audition Workshop is made possible by a grant from NEXT for Autism.



Centenary Stage Company presents the World Premiere of "Off the Map"

(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- The cast has been announced for Centenary Stage Company's World Premiere production of Off the Map by Christine Foster runs March 23 – April 2 in the Kutz Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center of the Centenary University campus at 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ. Off the Map follows the lives Denny and Claire who have retired to the wilds of Central America, where they quickly discover that things are not as they were expecting, neither in their relationship, nor in their new property, where a mysterious Mound is discovered by a pair of archaeologists who arrive on the scene, making a shattering discovery which will challenge all their beliefs about what is ever truly real and what is imagined.



Lantern Theater Company Announces 2023-24 Season

(PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- Lantern Theater Company has announced its upcoming 2023-24 season, which will mark the company's 30th anniversary of bringing great stories from great writers to Philadelphia and beyond. To celebrate this milestone season, the Lantern will showcase four brilliant plays from some of the world's best playwrights: Molière's comic masterpiece Tartuffe, directed by Charles McMahon; two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Lynn Nottage's dramatic gem, Crumbs from the Table of Joy; Faith Healer from legendary Irish playwright Brian Friel, directed by longtime Lantern artistic partner Peter DeLaurier; and William Shakespeare's lyrical and hilarious The Comedy of Errors, also directed by McMahon. The Lantern will also present its annual adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, a Philadelphia holiday tradition co-created by local theater artists Anthony Lawton, Christopher Colucci, and Thom Weaver.

PBS' Independent Lens Launches 20th Season of Free Pop-Up Screening Series in Teaneck and Nationwide

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The award-winning PBS documentary series, INDEPENDENT LENS, presents the launch of the upcoming season of Indie Lens Pop-Up in partnership with the Teaneck International Film Festival and the Puffin Cultural Forum. The season kicks-off on February 4, 2026 with The Librarians and continues through May. The series is free for all but sign up is required.
