(NEWARK, NJ) -- Mayor Ras J. Baraka and the Board of Trustees of the Newark Public Library announced the appointment of Christian Zabriskie as Director of the Library on July 5, 2023. Mr. Zabriskie has more than 20 years of urban public library experience. He most recently led the Onondaga County Public Library where he oversaw libraries in the City of Syracuse as well as providing library support services to an additional 22 independent libraries in the County.
(RED BANK, NJ) -- Count Basie Center for the Arts and Bank of America (BofA) have announced the seventh of twelve area nonprofits to be recognized during The Giving Year, the yearlong initiative to recognize and reward organizations for their contributions to the regional community. Ritesh Shah Charitable Pharmacy will receive $1 from every Count Basie Center ticket sold in July, along with event tickets for the organization's clientele and volunteers.

(BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- Light Opera of New Jersey (LONJ) has announced it has been awarded a Challenge America grant of $10,000 by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to launch their Opera for All initiative. The grant supports LONJ's new initiative to provide 10% of their total tickets at no cost to traditionally underserved communities in Central and Northern New Jersey. It will enable them to diversify their audience with a dedicated effort to remove the price barrier for those who may otherwise be unable to attend. This grant is one of 262 Challenge America awards totaling $2.62 million that were announced by the NEA as part of its first round of fiscal year 2023 grants.

(OCEAN GROVE, NJ) -- Princeton University Organist Eric Plutz will kick off the guest organist recital series at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove on Wednesday, July 12 at 7:30pm. This is a free concert. The Great Auditorium is located at Pilgrim and Ocean Pathways. All facilities are handicapped accessible.
(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Mayo Performing Arts Center's Arts in the Community free summer concert schedule for 2026 has been announced. MPAC will present six free concerts between June and August. The lineup includes the return of three of their most popular events – Bollywood Dance Party, Country Line Dancing and Salsa at Sunset, as well as singer-songwriters, and more.

(OCEAN GROVE, NJ) -- Split Level Concerts at the Jersey Shore Arts Center (JSAC) in Ocean Grove has announced the full concert lineup for its third season. All shows will take place beginning at 8:00pm in JSAC's Palaia Theater. The season lineup includes Willie Nile, John Gorka, Dan Bern, Catie Curtis and Band, Stephen Kellogg, Abbie Gardner, Heather Maloney and Band, and Kim Richey. As they have done in prior years, artists from the Asbury Park music scene will open many of the shows.
Loss, we've all suffered it. Some of us more than others,some less and still yet there are those of us who've not had loss of any significance to this point. Loss, like anything else, is directly related to perspective. What may seem like a huge loss to one, is insignificant to another. People pass away, bad days do the same, they fade into the night or disappear at the bottom of one's favorite drink until they are swept away by the morning's sunrise and things are new.
