Curtis Grayson III Comments on Covid-19 and Social Justice In New Exhibit At Herb + Milly Iris Gallery

(SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- Ushering in a new and exciting season of exhibitions at The Herb + Milly Iris Gallery in the South Orange Performing Arts Center is artist Curtis Grayson, III. His solo exhibit, Transitional Energy: Form, Shape, Color, will be on view from September 23-November 21. When creating the more than two-dozen vibrant, mixed-media works featured in this exhibition, Grayson was inspired by the effects of Covid-19 and the national social justice movement. Ninety percent of the pieces were created during the pandemic, from 2019-2021.

 "We were slammed and that's the weird thing; we all kind of joked that we couldn't wait to get back to work so we could stop working so much,” laughed Styx keyboardist Lawrence Gowan as he talked about the band’s workload during the COVID pandemic, their new album “Crash Of The Crown” and the ever changing fan base to which they’ve grown accustomed. “It  was really fun actually, because we kept ourselves extremely busy working on this record and I'm really glad that we did because it has already connected so well with people. We did a bunch of streaming things too so we could stay connected with the faithful out there throughout; let's call it, "The Break."



Makin Waves with The Foes of Fern: 'So Much Fun'

Holmdel-raised Matt “Fern” Fernicola and his creative partner in crime, Joe “Pom” Pomarico have been a fixture on the Asbury Park music scene since 2015 with the Berklee College of Music-originated Airacuda, and then Pom’s brainchild, Telegraph Hill Records. A veteran guitarist of such acts as The Burns, Bar/None recording artist Little Hag (aka former Telegraph act Avery Mandeville), and current Telegraph acts Natalie Farrell and Lake Champagne, Fern also now fronts his own mammoth, contagiously fun band The Foes of Fern.

It’s a lovely Saturday, September 4, 2021 evening as hundreds of theater lovers carrying lawn chairs and blankets line up for a benefit Labor Day weekend concert under the stars at the Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center in West Orange, NJ. The concert, starring Tony-winning Broadway veteran Laura Benanti, is slated to benefit two local community theater organizations, The Barn Theatre and Pleasant Valley Productions.

Terrific Animation Invention In C Major Plays At The Fall 2021 New Jersey Film Festival on September 19

Invention in C Major is a remarkable stop-motion animation feat by filmmaker Richard D. Lopez.  At four minutes long, this short film tells a deeply complex story that keeps the viewer watching with bated breath.  The film will be available for streaming worldwide and also screens live on Sunday, September 19 at the Fall 2021 New Jersey Film Festival.



"Into Schrodinger's Box" Asks What If Our Fears Take Over

We will never forget the way COVID-19 has changed our daily lives and those around the world. Well into the second year of the pandemic, the virus is now finding its way into movies. One film that has incorporated covid into the plot of a wonderful psychological thriller is Into Schrodinger's Box, which screens at the New Jersey Film Festival (in-person and online) on Friday, September 17th at 7:00pm.
