Monk Number Two by Freda Williams of Trenton
(TRENTON, NJ) -- Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie presents Trenton Makes Jazz, a juried exhibition celebrating Trenton's jazz scene, past and present. The varied array of 80 works by 48 area artists is inspired by jazz music, musicians, venues, and audiences. Janis Purcell and Michael Richardson juried the show. Opening Friday, February 13th, the exhibition will remain on view through March 22, 2026 with several related events planned.
Artists include: aida, Len Bilous, Jean Burdick, Bob Burger, Tom Chiola, Lydia Congiu, Brendan Connors, Robert Cuff, Morris Docktor, Justin Dombroski, Marsha Dowshen, Renee Egan, John Ennis, Steven Epstein, Todd Evans, Louise Fiore, Angela Marie Franco, Arlene Freed, Michael Graham, John Gummere, Barry Hantman, Marzena Haupa, William Hogan, Kathleen Hurley-Liao, Beverly Keese-Kelley, Ken Lewis, Eleni Litt, Roshan Malik, Arlene Milgram, Wendy Most, George Olexa, David Orban, Deborah Pey, Pat Proniewski, Robert Rankin, Linda Rothstein, Khalilah Sabree, Mahta Saghafi Gary Saretzky, Joseph Schembri, Janis Schimsky, Francisco Silva, John Slavin, Layla Wah, Barbara Wallace, Freda Williams, Mary Yess, and Jane Zamost.
Events related to Trenton Makes Jazz will include a concert on Friday, March 6, by the EC Bradley Candlelight Events Jazz All Stars and a gallery talk featuring several exhibition artists Sunday, March 15. Trenton City Museum is housed in Ellarslie Mansion, an 1848 Italianate villa in the heart of Trenton's historic Cadwalader Park, which was designed by the legendary Frederick Law Olmsted. The building, which is on the National Historic Register, is owned by the City of Trenton and operated by the nonprofit Trenton Museum Society, founded in 1973.
The museum explores and celebrates Trenton's history and culture, showcases contemporary art, artists, and performers, and offers a variety of community gatherings, classes, and workshops throughout the year for all ages. Hours are Thursdays through Saturdays, 12:00pm to 4:00pm; Sundays, 1:00pm to 4:00pm. There is no admission to view exhibits; donations are welcomed.
