(NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents Rickie Lee Jones on Friday, July 28, 2023. The two-time Grammy winner exploded onto the pop scene in 1978 with her smash hit single “Chuck E.’s in Love” and has made a career of fearlessly experimenting with her sound and persona over 15 critically acclaimed albums. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 8:00pm.

A cultural phenomenon, Rolling Stone magazine put her on its cover twice in two years, and Saturday Night Live gave her an unprecedented three songs for her second appearance.  Rickie is both a character in the songs and the songwriter singing, defying convention with her sometimes brazen sexuality and the mixed bag of jazz, rock and what has come to be known as ‘confessional’ songwriter performances.

Rickie Lee Jones’ latest album Pieces of Treasure is a reunion with her lifelong friend, legendary producer Russ Titelman, co-producer of Jones’ star-making debut and Pirates.  Throughout her career, the Grammy-winning singer songwriter has interpreted an extraordinarily wide range of songs and has recorded celebrated jazz-leaning albums including Girl at Her Volcano and Pop Pop, but until now, she had never devoted an entire album to the American Songbook.

“This album is as much about being human, the view of surviving—which means aging, and loving relentlessly—as it is about anything,” says Jones.

Her acclaimed memoir Last Chance Texaco is out now.
