The Elisabeth Morrow School Recognized as Apple Distinguished School

originally published: 10/03/2022

(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- The Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022–2025 for its use of technology to enhance children’s learning through hands-on projects with real-world connections.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.

“More than 90 years ago, our visionary founders, Elisabeth Morrow and Connie Chilton, launched a school built on the best ideas across early education. Today, we continue their legacy through innovative approaches, with a focus on making sure our students are empowered learners, computational thinkers, innovative designers, and responsible digital citizens. Apple technologies have been a catalyst in this, significantly enhancing students’ engagement, agency, and authentic connections to the world,” says Head of School Marek Beck, Ph.D.

The selection of The Elisabeth Morrow School as an Apple Distinguished School highlights its success as an innovator and a compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic achievement. The school’s exemplary STEAM curriculum features innovative programming in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics and features dedicated spaces — Exploration Alley (2-year-olds through kindergarten), Innovation Alley (first through fourth grades), and Innovation Studios (fifth through eighth grades) — to empower the next generation of designers, entrepreneurs, and inventors. Technology and innovation push the boundaries of what is possible.

Students at The Elisabeth Morrow School are immersed in a curriculum that integrates new technologies. They create silhouettes, an 18th-century art form, with 21st-century technology tools, including iPad and MacBook. They explore Greek myths by creating projects with Apple’s iMovie and GarageBand. They conceptualize audio and visual elements connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that they place and code in a virtual environment using Apple products.

As a school that balances the best of the old and the best of the new, The Elisabeth Morrow School looks forward to continuing its use of Apple technologies to transform teaching and learning. As our programs grow, students will encounter new opportunities to problem solve, think creatively, and share their voices through Apple’s Everyone Can Create and the Everyone Can Code resources, supported by technically savvy educators, including Apple Distinguished Educator and Head of School, Marek Beck, Ph.D., and Apple Learning Coach and Technology Integrator, Samantha Morra. With technology and heart, the school strives to inspire graduates who are ready to lead the way with innovative thinking in a rapidly changing world, becoming the next generation of curious scholars, ethical leaders, and global citizens.

The Elisabeth Morrow School is an independent day school serving children ages 2 through eighth grade from more than 55 communities throughout New Jersey and New York. Its mission is to provide exemplary academics and character development in a diverse and inclusive child-centered community, inspiring students to become curious scholars, ethical leaders, and global citizens. Located on a sprawling 14-acre campus, designated as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, in Englewood, N.J., just 10 minutes from the George Washington Bridge, the campus includes multiple technology and science labs, gymnasiums, maker spaces, libraries, as well as an athletic field.
