
(BEACH HAVEN, NJ) -- Surflight children's theater has been eagerly waiting to take you down to the Bikini Bottom in The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition. Performances take place July 23-27 & August 13-17, 2025 at 6:00pm each night.
Based on the book by Kyle Jarrow and the original musical by Tina Landau, Paula Hammons Sloan directs and choreographs this staged adaptation following Spongebob and his friends underwater as they face a volcano eruption that threatens to destroy their home and community. Spongebob, as strong willed as we all know him to be, must rally the citizens and find a way to save Bikini Bottom! The show follows classic tropes such as the power of friendship and the unlikely hero. It also features some classic musical theater hits such as “Bikini Bottom Day”, “Just a Simple Sponge”, “Hero Is My Middle Name”, “Super Sea Savior”, and more!
In award history, Spongebob has been very successful. There have been many theatrical productions including 2016 in Chicago, 2017 on Broadway, 2019-2020 on the North American tour, 2023 on the United Kingdom tour, and as recently as 2024 in Israel. Not only has the show won a Drama Desk Award, but it’s also received awards for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding New Score, and Outstanding New Broadway Musical. Tied with the Mean Girls musical, Spongebob was nominated for twelve different Tony awards in the 2018 ceremony.

This musical is based off of none other than the Nickelodeon animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants, and relies heavily on remaining loyal to the messages of the series in further adaptations. As you’ll learn, the show puts an emphasis on the power of unity and the importance of staying true to yourself, no matter the odds, just as is true in most episodes of the sitcoms. Spongebob and his friends come across a struggle, they face it together.
The show will also feature Musical Direction by August Walker, Scenic Design by Eli McKenna, Costume Design by Mandi Chiaro, Sound Design by Kyle Geriak, and Lighting Design by Ben Jordan.
Their youth cast includes: TD Brady stars as Spongebob, Mark James as Patrick, and Ryan Edge as Squidward.
Jack Weber will step into the role of Sheldon J. Plankton, Kyler Mathes as Mr. Crabs. Mason Hemphill plays Peach Perkins, Michael Paciello as Old Man Jenkins, and Parker Spangnuolo as Larry The Lobster. Eloise Enea plays Sandy Cheeks. Jillian Montello will appear as Karen Plankton, Taylor Johnson as Pearl; Stella Falcone as the Mayor of Bikini Bottom.
The remainder of the cast will consist of: Luke Avalon, Mason LoPiccolo, Sam Miller, Julia McHale, Cecelia Szabo, Eva Lyudmirski, Briella Bottone, Fiona Bligh, Jordyn Derion, Milana Dinis, Mila Ellis, Grace Hargadon, Emma Holler, Drew Hubbard, Olivia Kubek, Addisyn Kuhns, Emma Markoski, Aubrey Meyer, Emma Rollis, and Grace Shuhet.
