Surflight Theatre presents "9 to 5, The Musical"

originally published: 06/19/2025

(BEACH HAVEN, NJ) -- Surflight Theatre is beyond thrilled to be staging the forever timeless 9 to 5, The Musical from June 18 to July 6, 2025. Based on the book by Patricia Resnick and the 1980 film by Colin Higgins, Kelli Barclay directs and choreographs this staged adaptation following three iconic older women who decide to stick it to their boss once pushed to their breaking points.

This production features some classic musical theater hits such as “Ajax Warehouse”, “Charlie’s Bar”, “Pillow Fight”, “The Intruder”, and of course the main title “9 to 5”. Set in the late 70s, this satire grapples with themes of sexism and misogyny, but also friendship, revenge, and fun! Who doesn’t love a little hyper reality? Not only will the music and incredibly catchy soundtrack, by the one and only Dolly Parton, keep you wanting more, but also the very loveable and off- the- wall characters that are developed throughout the show!

Performances take place from June 18th - July 6th. 2:00pm matinees on June 19,22,24,29, July 1,6; and 8:00pm evening shows June 18,19,20,21,24,25,26,27,28, July 1,2,3,5. Tickets are $46 for adults; $36 for children 12 and under and are available for purchase online or by calling (609)492-9477. Surflight Theatre is located at 201 Engleside Avenue in Beach Haven, New Jersey.  NOTE, there are no performances June 5-8, 2025.

Kelli Barclay (Director/Choreographer) is a celebrated director and choreographer whose work spans Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theatre, and international stages. At Surflight Theatre, she directed and choreographed last season’s The Great American Trailer Park Musical and State Fair, as well as Annie Warbucks. She has also developed and directed a wide range of original works. To all of you Kelli writes “Thank you for supporting Surflight and live theatre!!”

The show will feature Musical Direction by Matty Mitchell, Scenic Design by Chris Strangfeld, Costume Design by Keith Schneider, Sound Design by Ian Wehrle, and Lighting Design by Anthony Marinaro.

The cast includes Erin Fish as Violet Newstead, Kasie Buono as Doralee Rhodes, Emma Luxemburg as Judy Bernly, and Alison Nusbaum as Roz Keith.
