Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites... 07/30/2026

By Danny Coleman

originally published: 07/30/2026

"Yeah, the idea started early last year," enthusiastically stated guitarist Adrian Vandenberg as he discussed his upcoming "My Whitesnake Years" tour, a conglomeration of hits from some of the most revered classic rock acts of all time. "Last year it was 35 years ago when Whitesnake headlined the legendary Donington Festival in England. So, we thought it would be a good thing to celebrate that anniversary and do a "My Whitesnake Years" tour and when we were done, people from all over the world began asking if we'd be willing to do a run here or there and we went to Scandinavia, Spain and there is actually more stuff in the pipeline for next year also and of course now to the United States and it has been a lot of fun so far."

With shows kicking off the tour in Massachusetts on August 3 and New Haven, CT on August 4, followed by three area shows August 5 in Newton, NJ, August 6 Sellersville, PA and at Sony Hall in New York City on August 7, there are a total of three off days between the start and the final US show in Atlanta on August 23, in short; they will be very busy road warriors and Vandenberg has assembled just that, a group of warriors, veteran musicians who have graced stages with multiple bands of stature, who've filled arenas around the globe but on this tour, well, there will be some youth infusion too.

"As you know, it was a long time ago that I played all this Whitesnake material and I've always really enjoyed it," explained Adrian as he spoke of how this all came together. "I've had to get reacquainted with it of course, which is really nice and it has enabled me to approach it with a fresh mind. I've got a killer band with a fantastic vocalist, bass player, keyboard player around me and I am convinced that we do serious justice to the Whitesnake material. Everybody is really enjoying playing it and judging by the wide smiles in the band, everybody truly is."

"Marco (Mendoza) was in The Dead Daisies," he continued, "About two or three years ago, he supported my band Vandenberg for 12 or 13 shows on a Dutch tour. So, we knew each other and the weird thing was, we actually met each other in 1997 when we recorded a video for a song called "Too Many Tears" from the "Restless Heart" album. We were about to go on tour and at the last moment Marco couldn't come because his dad passed away and so he had to cancel, which was a sad thing. We stayed in touch of course and it is going to be a lot of fun getting back together for this tour and we've got a great band with Vinnie Moore and the others and it's all great, you know? I'm really, really happy with the lineup of my band, probably for about the past five or six years now so we're a pretty well-oiled machine (Laughs). Everybody is enjoying it, two of the guys are in their early 30s and they got a kick out of listening to Whitesnake when they were like 12 or 13, never thinking that later on they would be playing with a guy that was in Whitesnake from 1986 until basically 1998. Those were the big adventures when "Here I Go Again" hit number one and we were playing sold out stadiums almost every night. So, it was pretty hectic for us guys."

His familiarity with Whitesnake came about before he was part of the snake pit so to speak but it's easy to get excited when you have an admiration for its founding member.

"It's pretty amazing. I've been a David Coverdale fan ever since he joined Deep Purple and by then I was still a student around 19 or something and I heard him sing on the "Burn" album and I thought, who the fuck is this guy? The guy was amazing and I think he was only 23 at the time. So, I've been a fan of David ever since then and I bought all the Whitesnake records, the early ones also and it's such great stuff. He's such a great singer that he can sing anything; he can sing a kiddie song and make it sound legit."

As stated earlier, this tour sees next to no downtime, almost as if their express train can't wait to leave the station; Vandenberg says that';s not the case at all.

"Yeah, it's one a day and usually seven or eight days in a row and then one off and then another seven or eight. I'm a lucky guy, my tour manager loves to do this stuff, he was born to be a tour manager and he's actually co-managing also; we have a huge meeting coming up that's gonna last about four hours to plan the next two or three months, there is a lot of stuff that's gonna be happening. I wish we could stay longer in the States but we have European shows and tours coming up too. We are definitely gonna be on the West Coast in May of next year but I'm sure we'll be on the East Coast and Texas and Florida so; the US won't get rid of us very easily (Laughs)."

Earlier there was mention of the "Veteran" musician presence assembled for this undertaking; guys who have earned their stripes and logged the miles. The great thing about being a talented sought after musician is that you are wanted and once wanted, a huge resume follows and it is the resume that will make this tour a "Must see" end of summer event.

"Both of the acts are doing a little over an hour, so it's gonna be a full night, like a two-and-a-half hour night of classic rock. Then Marco and Vinnie are gonna revisit their couple of years with UFO and Thin Lizzy. There will probably be a Journey song because Marco was in there as well and they're gonna revisit a lot of stuff. Vinnie also played with Alice Cooper so don't be surprised if there is some Alice Cooper stuff also. We have all of the incentive to play all of this stuff because we've all been in those bands, especially in my case being in Whitesnake for almost 12 years; it feels really good to play this stuff again."
