(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- On Wednesday, January 29th, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy hosted a reception to celebrate the Rainbow Thursdays: Artists 2025 art exhibit which features pieces created during free art classes. Rainbow Thursdays Artists classes are provided by the Hudson County Local Arts Grant Program (LAP) and are administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs /Tourism Development, CDBG/City of Bayonne, and the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust. This art exhibit is open to the public until February 7th and is located in the Historic Brennan Courthouse Rotunda.
"Hudson County is proud to support the artistic expression of it’s residents through the Local Arts Grant Program and we are especially proud to host exhibits like this one in the Rotunda to showcase their talents and efforts. The arts are intrinsic to the rich cultural fabric that permeates each municipality within Hudson County, and it improves the quality of life for all residents,” said County Executive Craig Guy. “Through the Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs /Tourism Development’s dedicated efforts, we work with our community members and organizations to continue strengthening artistic programming and growing Hudson County’s art community.”
"Exhibiting our Rainbow Thursdays Artists at the Historic Brennan Courthouse is a wonderful opportunity for us, as a positive representation of this program that developed from and is sponsored by the work of Hudson County Cultural & Heritage Affairs /Tourism Development and the LAP grant. The opportunity to exhibit and even sell their artwork to family, friends and many supporters in the community allows our Rainbow Thursdays Artists to become visible and valued in a new way," said James Pustorino, Executive Director of Victory Hall Inc.
Rainbow Thursdays Artists is a community-based art education program connecting disabled adults with professional artists who provide them with materials, training, and encouragement to express themselves through art. Classes are presented free of charge at area facilities. Now in its twelfth full year of operation, this weekly outreach art program is conducted in collaboration with Windmill Alliance and Sunflower Adult Medical Day Care in which participants have the opportunity to advance their creativity, skills, and development of their identity as artists. The Rainbow Thursdays Artists exhibit also provides these artists the opportunity to showcase their artwork to family, friends, and supporters in the community.
Victory Hall Inc. has been receiving Hudson County LAP grant funding since 2004 and have been providing art programs to residents such as those at the Sunflower Adult Medical Day Center in Bayonne and residents ages 20-90 across Hudson County. They focus on art teaching that is encouraging of the development of each individual’s self-expression, movement, and interests.
