Novado Gallery presents "I Said What I Said" group exhibition

originally published: 02/18/2025

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Novado Gallery presents I Said What I Said, a group exhibition that asserts the power of artistic voice, truth, and presence. The exhibit runs from March 8 through April 18, 2025. Curated by Jerome China, the exhibit celebrates the role of artists in shaping identity and challenging societal norms through unfiltered, direct, and fearless artistic expression.

Featuring a dynamic selection of works across various mediums, I Said What I Said is a testament to the strength it takes to stand firm in one’s beliefs and ideas, especially when those ideas challenge expectations. Jerome China’s curatorial work brings together Alfred Santana, Antoinette Ellis-Williams, Danny Campbell, Diane English, Jorge Luis Rodriguez, Kalan Mikael, Phoebe Tree, Michelle Neifert  and Mikel Elam; artists who are committed to authenticity, resisting external pressures to dilute or alter their creative voices.

“I believe the exhibition reflects the artists' commitment to authenticity in a world that often encourages silence, restraint and conformity. This exhibition challenges us to confront what happens when we refuse to edit or filter ourselves, to examine how our words and actions can disrupt, inspire, or transform. It is a call to embrace the fullness of our truths, to own the words we speak, the artwork we produce, and to empower ourselves through the unapologetic act of saying and creating what we mean... “It’s a declaration of presence and an invitation to embrace the power of saying and creating exactly what we mean.”   -Jerome China

Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the participating artists examine how unfiltered expression can disrupt, inspire, and transform. I Said What I Said is not just an exhibition, but a call to own our truths, to stand in our convictions, and to celebrate the radical act of speaking and creating without compromise.

Join them for the opening reception on March 8, 2025 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, where everyone will have the opportunity to engage with the artists and their work in an immersive and thought-provoking setting.
