(LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Branchport Galleries (inside the Long Branch Arts and Cultural Center) presents The New Botanical, an art exhibition curated by Ellen Martin that invites you to rediscover the wonder of trees, seeds, and flowers. The exhibit is on view from May 14 through June 30, 2026. It includes works by Suzan Globus, Kevin Hinkle/Ellen Martin, Daniel Sroka, and Gao Yuan.
There are no lush bouquets, perfectly composed apples and pears, or the exacting details found in Redouté's masterful Les Roses engravings. Instead, these images are about essences. They evoke and suggest. They offer new ways of seeing trees, seeds, and flowers. They are 21st-century botanicals.
Curator Ellen Martin invited artists who expand the boundaries and expectations of botanicals in order to create an exciting, cohesive exhibition that explores and exploits the theme. Suzan Globus pounds flowers into canvas; Daniel Sroka zooms in on the tiniest details of seeds and pods; and Gao Yuan transforms her photographs into wall sculptures. Kevin Hinkle and Martin create fused images of flowers.
