(METUCHEN, NJ) -- mignolo arts is a 501-c3 nonprofit interdisciplinary arts organization dedicated to forging connections across artistic disciplines. mignolo arts operates out of mignolo arts center, a state of the art, 28x40 foot ADA approved rehearsal studio, gallery, and performance space in Metuchen, NJ. Applications are open for their new Multi-Disciplinary Artist Residency Program. Applications are due by August 19, 2022 at 11:59pm.

As an organization, it is their mission to forge creative connections across artistic disciplines. They envision a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary arts community that transcends the traditional boundaries of not only artistic disciplines, but of social constructs like age, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, and sexuality. They foster this mission by providing innovative new programs, like this residency, for artists and audiences in their area.

Their state-of-the-art, multipurpose studio and galley space will be made available to a group of four artists working in various mediums to create a collaborative production or installation. The residency includes free rehearsal and studio space, equipment rentals (discussed upon application review), marketing for the end of residency showcase, and a stipend of $650 each. The residency cohort will be democratically selected based upon artistic merit, stylistic compatibility, and a sense of genuine desire to work collaboratively across mediums. Selected artists will be put in touch with their cohort and asked to submit a project proposal ahead of their arrival so that mignolo can best prepare and provide for their intended creations.

Selected artists will create either a 30-45 minute performance piece (to be accompanied by a shorter mignolo work in a split bill style performance at the end of the residency) or an installation / gallery piece that can be viewed by the public in the space. Further budget arrangements will be discussed upon acceptance.

Applications are due by August 19, 2022 at 11:59pm via Submittable, and the cohort artists will be announced on September 5, 2022. Applicants will be notified about the status of their application via email. Upon announcement of the residents, the artists will be given contact information for the rest of their cohort to discuss and submit their project proposal, due September 16, 2022. The residency will take place from October 3-7, 2022, October 10-14, 2022, and October 17-21, 2022, with technical rehearsal taking place on October 21, 2022 and performances/gallery opening on October 22-23, 2022. During these dates, the residents will be allowed access to the space between 9:00am and 4:30pm to work, rehearse, and collaborate. mignolo artistic and administrative staff will be available when necessary for assistance.
