(EDISON, NJ) -- Middlesex College's Visual, Performing, and Media Arts Department presents Edges across two weekends (February 19-21 and February 26-28, 2026) at the Studio Theater in Edison. The 100-minute production is a song-cycle about a group of young, burgeoning adults asking classic coming-of-age questions.
Written by Tony-nominated Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Dogfight, James and the Giant Peach) in their sophomore year at the University of Michigan, this charming, witty, and honest examination of adulthood explores what happens when we are teetering on the edges of our lives.
The songs cover such universal issues as love, commitment, identity, and meaning. Characters deal with confronting emotions, escaping expectations and deciphering complicated relationships.
Performances take place February 19-21 and February 26-28 at 7:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for veterans/seniors, and free for students with ID. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash only and seating is limited. The Studio Theater at Middlesex College is located at 2600 Woodbridge Avenue in Edison, New Jersey.
Director David Seamon notes that the musical has undergone a creative evolution as composers Pasek and Paul started writing the lyrics as college students in 2005, and rewriting it as they got older.
"They wrote what they knew: girls, drinking, hooking up, the internet (such as it was back then), hanging out, and other experiences that made up the outer layer of who they were as people," said Seamon. "As the composers aged, they aged the material to reflect their more complex understanding of the same situations. The songs began to pierce deeper than the surface and get at the heart of what it means to break through a personal barrier and find another one waiting for you a few years down the line."
