Lighthouse International Film Society presents "Hold Me Tight" Screening

originally published: 10/29/2022

(LOVELADIES, NJ) -- Lighthouse International Film Society & The Cheese Shoppe of Surf City present a screening of Hold Me Tight on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 7:30pm.  The screening takes place at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences (120 Long Beach Blvd) in Loveladies. Admission is $10 online/$12 door. Free for LIFSociety members.

Hold Me Tight, a new film by director Mathieu Amalric and featuring Vickey Krieps, a rising star of French cinema, is the story of a wife and mother who chooses to abandon her family and strike out on her own, taking with her the secret which has prompted her decision to leave.

Early reviews for the film are off the charts. Critics from Richard Ebert's website, Hollywood Reporter, LA Times, and a host of movie bloggers have been unanimous in their praise, hailing it as a sure contender for Oscar’s best in acting, directing and cinematography.

Normally, a film so recently released and showered with this much media attention would be next to impossible to book for a small, public screening. But thanks to the Lighthouse International Film Society and their tenacious approach for bringing in quality films (and the organization’s growing reputation in the international film community) Hold Me Tight is coming to LBI less than two months after its September North American theatrical release.

Synopsis: In Hold Me Tight, Vicky Krieps, one of France’s great contemporary actors (Phantom Thread, Bergman Island) gives another riveting performance as Clarisse, a woman on the run from her family for reasons that aren’t immediately clear. Less well-known in North America for his equally impressive work behind the camera is director Mathieu Amalric; this his sixth feature film and his most ambitious to date.

Hold Me Tight is a virtuosic, daringly fluid portrait of a woman in crisis, alternating between Clarisse’s adventures on the road and scenes of her abandoned husband’s (Arieh Worthalter) struggles at home caring for their children. Amalric’s film keeps viewers uncertain as to the reality of what they’re seeing until the final moments of this moving, unpredictable, and richly rewarding family drama.

Presented in French and German with English subtitles.

Tickets are available for purchase online.

LIFSociety would like to thank their sponsors, The Cheese Shoppe of Surf City, Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences, and Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Foundation for their generous support for bringing the screening of Hold Me Tight to LBI.
