History comes alive at Wild West City

opens for the season on May 2nd

originally published: 04/20/2026

(BYRAM TWP, NJ) -- Wild West City is more than just a theme park. It's a living history of America.

In addition to the 1880's Dodge City-like Main Street filled with artifacts and curios, there is a chuck wagon, stagecoach, a train ride and even a bonafide saloon like you see in old western movies and TV shows. On weekends you may see calvary soldiers, Civil War encampments, and always, horse-riding cowboys and cowgirls.

Wild West City, located in a picturesque setting in Byram Township in Sussex County, opens for the season on weekends starting May 2-3 and then is open daily beginning July 2, 2026. Visit the website for a complete schedule.

When you roam the main street of Wild West City you may meet up with the Town Marshal, Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid or one of many other figures from the old west, good guys and bad. Perhaps even Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke!

Wild West City kicks off its Spring Bonanza season with an array of mini skits, interactive shows, and plenty of its marquee seasonal favorites longtime fans remember fondly.

Wild West City, a perfect day trip for families and couples. It has been entertaining audiences for over six decades with live action-packed shows, train and stagecoach rides, mini golf, live history demonstrations, historical exhibits, music, special events and an opportunity to mingle with cowboys and cowgirls in "Dodge City."

Spring Bonanza offers a chance to shake off the chilly months with fresh air and family fun. Immerse yourself in the western experience looking for gold at Egan's Gold Mine, visit the Mountain Man's camp, see the blacksmith in action, and capture the feel of education at the one room schoolhouse.

The Cowboy Corral is where participants will find a unique, one of a kind roping experience. Experience the Billy the Kid Show: Billy's Great Escape, and check out the expanded Native American Village. Wild West City is an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the Wild West! Watch captivating live-action shows, view interactive exhibits, check out the Can-Can Girls, and listen to the timeless melodies of country and western music filling the air in Wild West City.

In the Golden Nugget Saloon, visitors can experience great eats and for the adults, craft cocktails, at the western style bar. If visitors choose they can bring their own food into the park and picnic in the Grove.

Buoyed by the popularity of shows like Yellowstone and other western TV shows and movies, Wild West City affords those fans a chance to see what the wild west was all about up close and personal. Wild West City can also be an educational experience for those who want to simply learn about the history of the American wild west.

For the night lovers, Wild West City will be having live music on select weekends in June, July and August.

Wild West City offers an array of special days during the year: among them Wild West City's National Day of the Cowboy and Cowgirl, Civil War reenactments, Native American events and more. The amusement park will continue to feature many of its annually held theme days with discounts, such as on Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Scout weekends.
