George Street Playhouse presents "Ibsen's Ghost". (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- George Street Playhouse presents Ibsen's Ghost by Charles Busch from January 16 through February 4, 2024. Based on a few irrefutable facts, the play tells a tall (and hilarious) tale of the legendary Norwegian playwright's wife Suzannah the week after the great man's state funeral. The production is directed by Carl Andress.

Make Plans for New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2024. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center, in association with the Rutgers University Program in Cinema Studies, will present the New Jersey Film Festival Spring 2024 which marks its 42nd Anniversary. The Festival will be taking place on select Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between January 26-February 18, 2024.

Thursday, February 1 - Count Basie Center for the Arts presents "All Things Equal – The Life and Trials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg". (RED BANK, NJ) -- Count Basie Center for the Arts presents All Things Equal – The Life and Trials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg by Rupert Holmes on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 7:00pm. Over the course of ninety fascinating and often funny minutes, the play presents an intimate portrayal of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a true American original.

Thursday, February 1 - Grunin Center presents "Rhapsody in Black" by LeLand Gantt. (TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Actor LeLand Gantt will present his autobiographical one-man show, Rhapsody in Black, on the Main Stage at the Grunin Center on Thursday, February 1. Tickets are $7. Showtime is 11:00am. Written and performed by Gantt, Rhapsody in Black explores LeLand's personal journey to understand and eventually transcend racism in America.

State Theatre New Jersey presents "Annie". (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents an all-new tour of the iconic Tony® Award-winning musical Annie for four performances from February 2-4, 2024. The world's best-loved musical returns to State Theatre New Jersey with all your favorite songs including "Tomorrow," "It's the Hard-Knock Life," and "Maybe."

Friday, February 2 - Jersey Arts Podcast: Getting 'Fun & Slutty' with Jonathan Van Ness. A nonbinary hero himself, Jonathan Van Ness rose to fame as the hairstylist to heroes, the name Netflix's "Queer Eye" reboot gives to its episodic guests. But Jonathan's been an artist long before "Queer Eye." Beyond the artistry required in his work as a stylist, Jonathan has been on stage as a comedian for years. His web series "Gay of Thrones," a weekly comedic recap of HBO's "Game of Thrones," where he starred as none other than an opinionated hairstylist, was a hit for Funny or Die. He is also the host of his very own podcast, "Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness." And in addition to all of that, he is also a New York Times Best Selling author.

The Growing Stage presents "Carmela Full of Wishes". (NETCONG, NJ) -- The Growing Stage: The Children’s Theatre of New Jersey,  is thrilled to kick-off 2024 with Carmela Full of Wishes weekends from February 2-18, 2024. Adapted by Alvaro Saar Rios from the book by Matt de la Peña, Illustrated by Christian Robinson, this production is directed by Danny Campos, veteran TGS performer and teaching artist. The play invites us to Carmela’s 7th birthday, and she’s finally old enough to accompany her big brother on his errands.

Friday, February 2 - NJCU and WP programs present "Working, a Musical". (JERSEY CITY NJ) -- The New Jersey City University Department of Music, Dance and Theatre and WP Voice presents Working, a Musical with five performances from February 2-11, 2024 at Margaret Williams Theatre. Based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews, Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day, the Musical Working paints a vivid portrait of the workers that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the delivery man, the waitress, the mason, and the stay-at-home parent, just to name a few.

Saturday, February 3 - bergenPAC presents Grand Funk Railroad: 50th Anniversary of "The Loco-Motion". (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) presents Grand Funk Railroad: 50th Anniversary of "The Loco-Motion" on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 8:00pm. Originating from Flint, Michigan in 1969, this top selling American rock group of the 70's is "Comin' to your town to help you party it down!"

Wednesday, January 31 - The Lewis Center for the Arts presents silver through the grass like nothing. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University will present silver through the grass like nothing, a new solo work-in-progress by Princeton Arts Fellow yunida edi kwon. The performance on Wednesday, January 31 at 8:00pm in the Hearst Dance Theater at the Lewis Arts complex on the Princeton University campus is free and open to the public; no tickets are required.

Saturday, February 3 - New Jersey Symphony Blends East and West to Celebrate Lunar New Year. (NEWARK, NJ) -- The New Jersey Symphony will present a special performance celebrating the Lunar New Year and ringing in the Year of the Dragon, featuring conductor Yue Bao and pianist Tony Siqi Yun, at New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 7:30pm.

Saturday, February 3 - Springsteen Archives to Celebrate 60th Anniversary of the Beatles' Arrival in America. (WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University will present a symposium on Saturday, February 3, 2024, that celebrates the arrival of the Beatles in America sixty years ago. Titled Get Back...To 1964, the day-long event will include panel discussions, interviews, book signings, and musical performances of early Beatles’ songs performed by regional musicians.

Saturday, February 3 - Centenary Stage Company's Winter Thaw Festival to Close out with Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba. (HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Centenary Stage Company's Winter Thaw Festival of concerts will end the series with a performance from Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba on Saturday, Februrary 3, 2024 at 8:00pm. The concert will take place at CSC's Sitnik Theatre of the Lackland Performing Arts Center at 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown, NJ.

Sunday, February 4, 2024 - StocktonPAC presents intercultural musical duo CelloGayageum. (GALLOWAY, NJ) -- East meets West in the unique and intercultural musical duo CelloGayageum, consisting of cellist Sol Daniel Kim and Gayageum player Dayoung Yoon. Experience the seamless blending of two cultures through the duo's music at the Stockton University Performing Arts Center on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Showtime is 2:00pm.

Sunday, February 4 - Lance Bryant Trio to Celebrate Black History Month at Jersey Jazz LIVE! Concert in Madison. Tenor saxophonist, arranger, and educator Lance Bryant moved to New York City in the mid-1980s after studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 1990, Bryant began a decade-long relationship with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, eventually becoming the band's Musical Director and Principal Arranger.

Sunday, February 4 - Music in the Somerset Hills and the Morris Museum present Dan Tepfer's Natural Machines. (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- On February 4, 2024, Music in the Somerset Hills and the Morris Museum are teaming up to present Dan Tepfer's Natural Machines, a Live Arts performance by the internationally acclaimed pianist-composer that explores the intersection of science and art. Showtime is 3:00pm.

THEATRE

Haddonfield Plays & Players to Presents Monty Python's "Spamalot". (HADDONFIELD, NJ) -- Haddonfield Plays & Players will present Monty Python's Spamalot weekends from Friday, January 19 to Saturday, February 3, 2024. Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur's quest to find the Holy Grail. Inspired by the classic comedy film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. With a mashup of several Monty Python bits, this show will not only delight the Monty Python enthusiast, but any fan of musical comedies.

Players Guild of Leonia presents "Deathtrap". (LEONIA, NJ) -- Players Guild of Leonia, New Jersey's oldest continuing community theater group (since 1919), presents their first show of 2024 – the comedy thriller Deathtrap weekends from January 19 to February 4, 2024. With plot twists aplenty, Deathtrap tells the story of a has-been playwright, Sidney Bruhl, who is desperate to regain his prestige, and his young protégé, Clifford Anderson, who unwittingly offers an intriguing solution. How desperate remains a secret, and to tell you any more would be a crime!

"A Matter of Faith" to have World Premiere at The Chain Theatre. (NEW YORK, NY) -- A Matter of Faith, a new play by Ian Richard Barnes, will have its world premiere beginning January 24 for a limited off-Broadway engagement. Directed by Augustus Childres, A Matter of Faith will run thru February 4 at The Chain Theatre at 312 West 36 Street. The cast of this three-person, 85 minute play, features Ava Paris Locknar, Henry Frontini and Ian Richard Barnes.

Shakespeare '70 to present "All My Sons" at Kelsey Theatre. (WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- Shakespeare '70 presents Arthur Miller's powerful tale of morality, guilt, responsibility, and irrevocable loss of innocence during World War II, All My Sons, at the Kelsey Theatre on Mercer County Community College's (MCCC) West Windsor Campus, January 26 to February 4, 2024.

Brundage Park Playhouse presents "Damn Yankees". (RANDOLPH, NJ) -- Brundage Park Playhouse presents Damn Yankees at the playhouse on Carrell Road in Randolph across two weekends (January 26-28 and February 2-4, 2024). Would you do ANYTHING to help your favorite baseball team win the pennant? In the Faustian baseball musical, Damn Yankees, Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil to be the home run hitter that will guide his favorite team, the Washington Senators, to a win against those "damn Yankees."

Black Box presents The Writers Project. (TEANECK, NJ) -- The first installment of The Writers Project will take place on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Debonair Music Hall. This special evening, the first in an ongoing series, will feature Black Box performers including Ilana Schimmel, J Niles, Danielle MacMath, Justin Jager, and Joseph Liberti performing segments of the original work of writers such as Michael Gardiner, Jakob Holder (Executive Director of The Edward F. Albee Foundation), James O'Connor (Edward F. Albee Fellowship Recipient), Matt Okin, and Steven Sarao. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Paper Mill Playhouse presents "After Midnight". (MILLBURN, NJ) -- Paper Mill Playhouse presents After Midnight from January 31-February 25, 2024. Conceived by Jack Viertel (former Artistic Director of City Center Encores!), this Jazz Age rhythm and dance extravaganza is an electrifying musical revue that transports you to the Cotton Club of the Harlem Renaissance, an unparalleled time in New York City when jazz and swing were king. The production is co-directed by Dominique Kelley and Paper Mill Playhouse’s Associate Artistic Director Jen Bender and choreographed by Kelley.

Centenary Stage Company's NEXTStage Repertory presents "Romeo and Juliet". (HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) -- Centenary Stage Company’s NEXTStage Repertory presents William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, adapted by Stephen Michael Davis, across two weekends from February 1-11, 2024. Centenary University Theatre students bring Shakespeare's timeless tale of star-crossed lovers to life at Centenary Stage Company's Little Theatre.

Nettingham Performing Arts Company presents "Once Upon A Mattress: Youth Edition". (SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ) -- Nettingham Performing Arts Company presents "Once Upon A Mattress: Youth Edition" in the Nettingham Middle School Auditorium from February 2-4, 2024. Music By Mary Rodgers, Lyrics By Marshall Barer, Book By Jay Thompson, Directed by Katherine Decker Lewis, with Music Direction by James Mosser, and Choreography by Samantha Simpson, this production promises a delightful experience.

Two River Theater presents the World Premiere of "The Scarlet Letter" by Kate Hamill. (RED BANK, NJ) -- A new year, and a world premiere! Riding the wave of its 30th anniversary season, set in motion by audience sensation Hair this past fall, Two River Theater has announced the cast and creative team for its second production of the season: the world premiere of The Scarlet Letter by Kate Hamill (Pride and Prejudice, Little Women), one of the American theater’s most widely produced contemporary playwrights, and directed by Shelley Butler (Beautiful: The Carol King Musical, A Doll’s House Part 2).

Bergen County Players presents "Pride and Prejudice". (ORADELL, NJ) -- Heed the invite from some of the most memorable characters in fiction! Bergen County Players (BCP), one of America's longest-running little theater companies, will open its first mainstage production of the new year with a comedic retelling of Jane Austen's great romantic tale Pride and Prejudice. Performances run weekends from February 3-24, 2024 at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell.

American Theater Group presents An Evening with Peter Filichia. (RAHWAY, NJ) -- American Theater Group (ATG), a professional regional theater company in Central NJ, presents an evening with veteran theater critic and Broadway insider Peter Filichia during the grand re-opening celebration of the newly-renovated Hamilton Stage in Rahway on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 7:00pm.

Out of the Box Theatrics to present reading of "Trash". (NEW YORK, NY) -- Out of the Box Theatrics has announced the first reading of the company's Building the Box series of new plays. OOTB will present a reading of Trash, a new play written by James Caverly and Andrew Morrill. The readings, which will be directed by Nathaniel P. Claridad, will be presented on Monday, February 5 at 7:00pm, Tuesday, February 6 at 1:00pm, and Thursday, February 8 at 7:00pm at 154 Christopher Street (formerly the New Ohio Theatre).

Wednesday, January 31 - Standup In The Suburbs to Launch January 31st. (TEANECK, NJ) -- J-Sketch, in association with Black Box Studios, presents the first installment of Standup In The Suburbs featuring six NJ- and NY-based comedians on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 8:00pm at Debonair Music Hall. The lineup includes Liz Glazer, Mikey Greenblatt, Ami Kozak, Eli Lebowicz, Ashley Austin Morris, and Dovi Neuburger.

Friday, February 2 - NJPAC presents Jonathan Van Ness. (NEWARK, NJ) -- If you know JVN, you love JVN. Jonathan Van Ness made a splash on the Netflix reboot of Queer Eye, and he's been a fabulous pillar of the media landscape ever since. He's a hairstylist. An entertainer. Friday, February 2 - StocktonPAC presents Putty Dance Project: Glimpse. (GALLOWAY, NJ) -- Stockton Performing Arts Center (StocktonPAC) presents Putty Dance Project: Glimpse on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 7:30pm. Over the years Putty Dance Project has evolved from producing socially conscious multi-dimensional shows, to concentrating on live jazz music and dance.

Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater to celebrate 5th anniversary of "The Jungle Book". (DEAL, NJ) -- Axelrod Contemporary Ballet Theater (AXCBT) will present a newly revised and revitalized version, with a new score, of Artistic Director Gabriel Chajnik's ballet The Jungle Book, based on Rudyard Kipling's beloved stories about a boy adopted and raised by wolves fulfilling his quest for identity, love and belonging, Performances will take place at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center from February 2-11, 2024.

Friday, February 2 - Stockton University Dance Faculty Member Unveils New Project About Life Through Camera Phone Lens. (GALLOWAY, NJ) -- Stockton University Dance faculty member Lauren Putty White will put on a show of improvisatory dance to live jazz music that shares her take on living the phases of life through the lens of the camera phone. Her project "Glimpse" will be performed on Friday, February 2, 2024 in the Stockton Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm.

Saturday, February 3 - Dance New Jersey presents DNJFest '24. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Dance New Jersey presents DNJFest '24 on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts. This is a statewide convergence for NJ dance students and professionals to dance, learn, and network in celebration of dance and the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop. The event runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Saturday, February 3 - Parkway Central Library of Philadelphia presents screening of "Broken Dreams: The Story of James E. Dupree". (PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- For Black History Month the Parkway Central Library of Philadelphia at 1901 Vine St is hosting a free documentary film screening of "Broken Dreams: The Story of James E. Dupree" on February 3rd, 2024 at 2:00pm. The screening will be followed by an insightful conversation between Philadelphia artist James E. Dupree, his former assistant Abigail Henry, and one of the directors Tyrone Brown. The documentary highlights artist Dupree's eminent domain battle against the city of Philadelphia from 2012 to 2014.

Sunday, February 4 - The ShowRoom to take audiences back 50 Years to Watergate and Patty Hearst. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Shock and scandal in headlines and halls of power are time-honored American traditions. This February, The ShowRoom Cinema in downtown Asbury Park invites you back 50 years to 1974, when two such scandals rocked the nation. The movie theater will be revisiting Patty Hearst's abduction as well as President Richard Nixon's resignation in the wake of the Watergate investigation with special event screenings of two must-see films.

Tuesday, February 6 - "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" to be Performed at RVCC Theatre. (BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- The Theatre at Raritan Valley Community College's School-Time series for children and young teens will continue with a production of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 10:00am. The 60-minute performance is geared for children in grades Pre-K to 5 and their families. British Theatre Guide has called the production "Funny, enchanting and visually inventive."

Tuesday, January 30 - Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch to Host American Red Cross Blood Drive. (SURF CITY, NJ) -- Start 2024 with a lifesaving act. The Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch invites you to make a difference during the American Red Cross blood donation drive in its meeting room on Tuesday, January 30. The drive runs from 1:00pm to 6:00pm.
