Ember Choral Arts to Hold Auditions for May Concert featuring New Works by Emerging Composers

(MANHATTAN, NY) -- Ember Choral Arts, renowned for its dedication to excellence in performing choral music of living composers, will hold announce auditions for its upcoming May concerts on Thursday evening, March 7, 2024 at the Opera America building, near Penn Station. Auditions take place between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.

Founded under the visionary leadership of Dr. Deborah Simpkin King, Ember Choral Arts is concluding its 29th season of captivating audiences with moving choral performances, both internationally, and locally in NY and NJ.

The highlight of Ember Choral Arts' upcoming concerts will be the premiere of new works by two exceptional composers discovered through its Ember Ablaze Composer Lab Competition. Spearheaded by Composer in Residence Robert Paterson, this initiative aims to expansively nurture emerging talent. From a pool of global applicants, Aidan Gold and Jonah Cohen were selected in the Emerging Composer and Youth Division categories respectively, and mentored through the composition process by Paterson, who will also contribute a new piece to the program. The dynamic emotional opposites of “Love and Loathing” is the theme of what promises to be an evening of fresh, compelling music.

Ember Choral Arts invites singers seeking others of like commitment and with strong skills in sight-reading, good intonation, and clear tone to audition. Auditionees should prepare 32-bars of a song in their preferred style that showcases their vocal abilities. Furthermore, they will be asked to demonstrate their sight-singing proficiency during the audition process.

Interested singers can register for auditions and find more information at www.emberarts.org/auditions. Don't miss this chance to join Ember Choral Arts in bringing innovative choral music to audiences in New York and beyond. Opera America is located at 330 7th Avenue (7th Floor) in New York, NY.
