Ba ba ba da da! It's officially "Warmth in Winter" season! New Jersey-based indie alternative-folk trio Cold Weather Company are wrapping listeners in a blanket of holiday nostalgia and cozy charm with their beloved seasonal song, "Warmth in Winter."
Written by the band and featuring recordings from fans, family, and even the choir from pianist Steve Shimchick's high school alma mater, the track captures the communal spirit of the holidays. With a cinematic arrangement and feel-good energy that mirrors a scene from your favorite holiday film, "Warmth in Winter" celebrates the beauty of connection, reminding us that there truly is something warm about winter. Maybe it's just being surrounded by a choir of people you love.
"Given our band name, it feels right to have a winter song, and each year that passes packs more and more nostalgia into this recording," shares Steve Shimchick. "We're particularly proud of how it came together, from our own combined writing and lyrical trade-offs to including our listeners, friends, family, and the 2019 choir from my high school alma mater. We did our best to translate the feeling of 'warmth' into a musical medium, and it means a lot to be able to revisit (and share) the song each holiday season during a time that's special for so many."
This year marks Cold Weather Company's 12th anniversary, boasting over 12 million streams, a catalog of 70+ released songs, and the recent release of their fifth full-length album, In Time. The band has been named one of NJ.com's "NJ Bands You Need to Hear" three times and supported The Bouchard Brothers on their 2022 UK tour. With more than 1.3 million YouTube views and 45.8k followers across all of their social channels, their dedicated fanbase continues to grow worldwide.
Whether it's the first chill in the air or the glow of twinkling lights, "Warmth in Winter" is the perfect soundtrack for the season, available on all major streaming platforms.
Cold Weather Company is an indie alternative-folk band blending the influences and experiences of three singer-songwriters (Steve Shimchick, Jeff Petescia, and Brian Curry) into a cinematic, storytelling soundscape. What sprouted with a serendipitous park bench meeting at Rutgers University grew roots through dorm room and cabin recordings, branching out with performances near and far. With mirroring guitars on either side of the piano, the band's symmetry reflects this balance between individuality and cohesion.
On their latest records and for select live shows, the trio is joined by percussion, brass, strings, and more instrumentation to expand their distinctive indie-folk foundation.
