(NEWARK, NJ) -- Clinton Hill Community Action (CHCA) and South Ward ArtsXChange proudly present A Night at the Theater on Thursday, August 24 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Mildred Helms Park, entrances on Hedden Terrace and Seymour Avenue. Get ready for a magical evening with Yendor Theater Company presents Eternal City, a play by Pia Wilson. Wilson, a Newark native, is bringing her talents home once again. She previously wrote the play Down Neck to help celebrate Newark’s 350th anniversary. That play was directed by the late Rodney Gilbert, who was also the founding artistic director of the Yendor Theater Company.
“It’s a wonderful experience working with a company I already know and trust,” Wilson explained. “I know Eternal City is in good hands with Yendor.”
Andrew Binger, co-founder and current artistic director of the Yendor Theater Company, pointed out that the Newark-based company has had the goal of amplifying the voices of Newarkers through the art of theater since its founding in 2016. “We explore themes that resonate with a resilient community like ours. From police brutality, racism, and mental illness to forbidden love, faith, and community building, we want to make sure that all of Newark’s perspectives have a place in the plays we produce.”
Eternal City follows the adventures of Captain Enuf Jackson and Joilette “Letty” Barnes, a first-class navigator, as they travel through time to Newark in 2023. Already facing the very real problem that travel to Newark is prohibited, Enuf must also work to convince Letty that staying in the past is no way to solve the problems of the future.
Join CHCA and South Ward ArtsXChange for a wonderful evening celebrating local talent in Clinton Hill’s beautiful Mildred Helms Park. Information about this event can be found at www.clintonhillaction.org/events and attendees are encouraged to RSVP using the QR code available there.
