Chatham Players Announce 2024-25 Season

originally published: 08/19/2024

(CHATHAM, NJ) -- Chatham Players has announced their 2024-25 season. Productions include Sideways by Rex Pickett; A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens; World Builders by Johnna Adams; You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown by Clark Gesner; Home, I'm Darling by Laura Wade; and Tape by Stephen Belber.

Sideways - September 20 to October 5, 2024. A wine-tasting road trip to salute the final days of bachelorhood careens woefully sideways as two friends hit the gas enroute to mid-life crises. The comically mismatched pair, who share little more than their history and a heady blend of failed potential and fading youth, soon find themselves drowning in wine and women. Emerging from a haze of Pinot Noir, wistful yearnings, and trepidation about their future, the two inevitably collide with reality. This play has been adapted for the stage by Rex Pickett from his 1998 novel of the same title, also released as a critically acclaimed film in 2004.

A Christmas Carol - December 5-21, 2024. In this version, produced exclusively at the Chatham Playhouse since 1988, Dickens serves not only as narrator, but also as a character that befriends Scrooge and walks beside him during his life-changing journey through memories and premonitions. While the script remains true to the original story, the playwright also pulled from letters that Dickens wrote to family and friends. The story of Ebenezer Scrooge has become one of the most beloved of all holiday tales, and this unique production also reminds us that Dickens’ inspiration for penning the story goes much deeper. A family friendly musical for all.

World Builders - January 10-12, 2025. Max and Whitney's schizoid personality disorders cause them to live deep within their own imagined realities – one expansive and fanciful, the other dark and brutal. To break free of these visions and become functional members of society, they embark upon a clinical drug trial that might erase these worlds forever. But are they truly able to leave their fantasies behind?  And should they?  In a medicated age in which our imaginations are colonized by mass media, how do we know when happiness and love are real?

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown - February 28 to March 15, 2025. Based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, Charlie Brown and the entire Peanuts bunch explore life's great questions as they play baseball, struggle with homework, sing songs, swoon over their crushes, and celebrate the joy of friendship. Book, music, and lyrics by Clark Gesner.

Home, I'm Darling - May 2-17, 2025. Every marriage needs a little fantasy to keep it sparkling. But behind the gingham curtains, being a domestic goddess isn't as easy as it looks... This is Laura Wade's new dark comedy about sex, cake and the quest to be the perfect 1950s housewife.

Tape - June 6-8, 2025. Three friends from high school meet at a motel for an overdue reunion, but the night quickly sours after one accuses another of committing a terrible crime years ago. Tape is an edge-of-your-seat, high-stakes thriller about power, memory, truth, and the love-hate bonds between friends.
