BlowUpRadio.com's New & Notable NJ Music 8/19/24

By Lazlo

originally published: 08/19/2024

Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online radio station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at new releases by Fear Of Falling, Boogie Down Apocalypse, Sean Kiely, Ferocious Designs, and Surfing For Daisy. Plus a look back at "Stupid American Song" by Rick Barry.

Fear Of Falling - "When I Danced With Mary". Fear Of Falling's latest single, "When I Danced With Mary", is one heck of an earworm! The song sounds current, while deftly mining a 60's pop sound. Genius!

Boogie Down Apocalypse - "POST MORTEM". Post-Punk Hip-Hop artist Boogie Down Apocalypse's "POST MORTEM" album is a fascinating collection of alternative songs, including a unique take on DEVO's "Girl U Want".

Sean Kiely - "All Of Them Singing". Sean Kiely's first new song of 2024, "All Of Them Singing", is a lovely, jangly, indie-folk-pop tune, with upright bass, mandolin, and a chorus that I've been singing in my head all week.

Ferocious Designs - "How Dare You Call Yourself Justice". Ferocious Designs has never been more Ferocious than on his new single, "How Dare You Call Yourself Justice", a song he says, "is a quick thing I wrote in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court's horrific and completely meritless ruling on presidential immunity." The song has a angry, aggressive, new wave rock sound. He paired it with new versions of 2 other anti-MAGA songs he wrote.

Surfing For Daisy - "Hell of a Time". Having released an EP just last month, I did not expect new music from Surfing For Daisy so soon, but "Hell of A Time", is a beautiful, soulful piece of Americana.

Not New, But Memorable Corner

Rick Barry - "Stupid American Song". Rick Barry is an immensely talented singer-songwriter whose music has been on BlowUpRadio.com since his debut album, "Declaration Of Codependence", came out in 2006. A fan favorite from that album is, "Stupid American Song", a song that is a classic (though a couple of crude words in the song still feel jarringly out of place).

That's all for this week.

Remember BlowUpRadio.com, plays these and many other New Jersey based artists on our internet radio station, so please check us out. #SupportGoodMusic - If you like any of the above artists, please purchase their music from their site.
