Bell Theater presents Lorna Luft and Julie Benko: "From Hollywood to Broadway"

(HOLMDEL, NJ) -- Two stars: One night! Bell Theater at Bell Works in Holmdel presents Lorna Luft and Julie Benko: From Hollywood to Broadway on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at 3:00pm. This performance is sponsored by the Axelrod Performing Arts Center.

Born to the legendary Judy Garland and producer Sid Luft, Lorna Luft first appeared at age 11 on her mother’s TV show, The Judy Garland Show, along with her siblings, Liza Minnelli and Joey Luft. She went on to perform on Broadway in Promises, Promises and Off-Broadway in Extremities alongside Farrah Fawcett, and Snoopy, the Musical. She has performed in domestic and international productions of They’re Playing Our Song, Guys and Dolls, Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Holiday Inn and White Christmas. Luft co-produced Life with Judy Garland, the Emmy-winning miniseries based on her memoir Me and My Shadows. Her latest book, A Star Is Born: Judy Garland and the Film That Got Away, was released to rave reviews. She also celebrates her mother’s songbook in a one-woman show, Songs My Mother Taught Me.

Julie Benko, the understudy-turned-star whose sensational turn as Fanny Brice in Funny Gircemented her place among Broadway royalty, adds her sterling vocals and trademark humor to the evening as she reflects on her extraordinary journey. Between her tenure as the standby, alternate and full-time Fanny Brice, she played the role over 180 times and was named the 2022 Breakout Star for Theater by The New York Times and one of 10 Broadway Stars to Watch in 2023 by Variety. In 2023, she originated her first role on Broadway, playing Ruth in the Barry Manilow/Bruce Sussman musical Harmony. She has also performed to sold-out crowds at Café Carlyle, Birdland and 54 Below.

Together, Lorna and Julie will take you on a journey from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the dazzling lights of Broadway. Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center presents Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" in Metuchen and Plainfield

(METUCHEN, NJ) -- Not long after a revival of Thornton Wilder's play Our Town closed on Broadway, New Jersey audiences will have the chance to see the classic drama close to home. Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center will present the classic play in both Metuchen and Plainfield in July. (BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- Light Opera of New Jersey presents The Pirates of Penzance at the Sieminski Theater July 12-13, 2025. They have assembled a brilliant cast ready to bring you a sensitive-yet-duty-bound pirate apprentice, a gaggle of gloriously melodramatic daughters, a Major-General who can out-patter anyone, and a police force whose bravery is inversely proportional to the size of their mustaches.

A New Musical, "Rocky Bumps," to Have Staged Reading in Haddonfield

(HADDONFIELD, NJ) -- An original musical, Rocky Bumps, will hold a staged reading on Sunday, July 13, 2025 at the Haddonfield Theater Arts Center Studio. The musical is a coming-of-age tale steeped in romance, risk, and retro charm. The reading begins at at 2:00pm.

Players Guild of Leonia to Hold Auditions for "Where The Time Goes"

​​​​​​​(LEONIA, NJ) -- The Players Guild of Leonia will hold auditions for Where The Time Goes on Tuesday, July 15 and Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm each night at their theater. This is a World Premiere musical featuring the iconic songs of The Baby Boomer Generation.
