Basie Center Cinemas offers screenings of "Anora" this weekend

(RED BANK, NJ) -- Basie Center Cinemas has screenings of Anora - the film that took many by surprise at this year's Oscars - this weekend (March 7-9, 2025).  The film about young sex worker from Brooklyn won 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture.

Anora is an audacious, thrilling, and comedic variation on a modern day Cinderella story. Mikey Madison (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood) captivates as Ani, a young sex worker from Brooklyn whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets and impulsively marries Vanya, the impetuous son of a Russian billionaire. However, when Vanya’s parents catch wind of the union, they send their henchmen to annul the marriage, setting off a wild chase through the streets of New York.

In addition to Best Picture, the film won Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing with Sean Baker winning Best Director and Mikey Madison winning Best Actress.  Yura Borisov was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Screenings take place Friday, March 7 at 7:00pm; Saturday, March 8 at 1:30pm & 7:00pm; and Sunday, March 9 at 1:30pm. Tickets are available for purchase online.
