2023 West Orange Classic Film Festival Preview

(WEST ORANGE, NJ) -- The West Orange Classic Film Festival returns January 8 through March 5 in the town shere Thomas Edison invented movies. The festival offers cinema lovers a chance to experience their favorite films as they were meant to be seen - on the big screen! This year's film festival theme is "Fabulous Fables & Magical Myths."

All film screenings take place Sundays at the AMC Theatre in the Essex Green Shopping Center (495 Prospect Ave, West Orange) at 2:00pm (There is no screening on Super Bowl Weekend – February 12th). Each film will be followed by a discussion led by a local film scholar/critic.

Tickets are $15.00 per screening and must be purchased in advance on Eventbrite.

January 8: The Adventures of Robin Hood with Speaker Stephen Whitty. The swashbuckling, classic tale of Robin and his merry men who rob the rich to give to the poo. With Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland.

January 15: Abbott and Costello's Jack and the Beanstalk (1952) with Speaker Bob Furmanek. A stunning NEW 4K version! The New Jersey premiere of this restored 1952 classic featuring the state's favorite sons, Abbott & Costello.

January 22: Yellow Submarine​​​​​​​ (1968) with Speaker Dave Zimmer. Yellow Submarine is a 1968 animated jukebox musical comedy adventure film inspired by the music of the Beatles.

January 29: Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast​​​​​​​ (1946) with Speaker Gerard Amsellem. Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bête) is a 1946 French romantic fantasy film directed by French poet and filmmaker Jean Cocteau.

February 5: The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) with Speaker Paul Castiglia. Sinbad and his crew make landfall on Colossa. They encounter Sokurah the magician fleeing a giant cyclops. So the adventure begins...

February 19: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) with Speaker John Chasse. Gene Wilder stars in a 1971 fantasy about an eccentric candy maker and poor boy who he introduces to the world of imagination...and candy.

February 26: The Princess Bride (1987) with Speaker Stephen WhittyThe Princess Bride is a 1987 American fantasy adventure comedy directed/co-produced by Rob Reiner, starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright

March 5: Field of Dreams (1989) with Speaker Ed Randall.  Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella is inspired by a voice he can't ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe.

The West Orange Classic Film Festival is presented by the West Orange Film Society, part of the West Orange Arts Council, and is co-sponsored by the West Orange Recreation Department.

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The Rutgers Film Co-op/New Jersey Media Arts Center, in association with the Rutgers University Program in Cinema Studies, presents the 2026 New Jersey International Film Festival which marks their 31st Anniversary. The NJIFF competition will be taking place on the Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between May 29 - June 7, 2026 and will be a hybrid one as they will be presenting it online as well as doing in-person screenings at Rutgers University.
