(MENDHAM, NJ) -- Music in the Somerset Hills will present an intimate concert featuring Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 7:00pm. The performance, starring NYC-based early music ensemble TENET Vocal Artists, will take place in the French Eclectic-style chapel at the Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham.
The program pairs the monumental Stabat Mater by 18th-century Neapolitan composer Pergolesi with florid sonatas by Isabella Leonarda, who lived and composed one generation before from a convent in Novara. In these devotional pieces depicting the grief of the Virgin Mary, the juxtaposition of Leonarda’s distinctive musical voice with Pergolesi’s will allow the listener to experience two different approaches to expressivity in music.
Tickets are limited and range from $35 for general admission to $50 for reserved seating with both advance and day of show pricing. Students (up to college senior) may attend free of charge. For ticket information and reservations, please visit MusicSH.org/Events
Led by Jolle Greenleaf, soprano and Artistic Director of TENET Vocal Artists, the chamber ensemble will include Kristen Dubenion Smith (mezzo-soprano), Alana Youssefian (violin), Sarah Jane Kenner (violin), Aniela Eddy (violin and viola), Matt Zucker (cello), and Caitlyn Koester (chamber organ).
