Middletown Arts Center to Hold Auditions for "The Marvelous Wonderettes" on Sunday

originally published: 05/09/2022

(MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The MAC PLAYERS at the Middletown Arts Center will hold auditions for The Marvelous Wonderettes, written and created by Roger Bean, on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 1:00pm-5:00pm. This smash Off-Broadway hit and 50’s era jukebox comedy is the second in the MAC’s adult community theater company’s 2022–23 schedule with production dates of July 8–9, 2022. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 8:00pm-10:00pm.

The Marvelous Wonderettes takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom, where we meet Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy and learn about their lives and loves while they serenade us with classic ‘50s hits including Lollipop, Dream Lover, Stupid Cupid and Lipstick on Your Collar. In Act II, the Wonderettes reunite to take the stage and perform at their ten-year reunion. We learn about the highs and lows the girls have experienced in the past decade and are charmed to find that no matter what life throws their way, they will conquer it together. Featuring over 30 classic ’50s and ’60s hits, The Marvelous Wonderettes will keep you smiling in this must-take musical trip down memory lane!

After a highly successful run of SHREK The Musical, Director Kathy Connolly and Musical Director Nicholas Jupinka return to lead the cast of Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy, and Suzy: four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts!

Participants must prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song in the style of the show and 32 bars of a song of choice showing range. If possible, please bring tracks for your selection.

To schedule an audition time, please email auditionmac@gmail.com. Actors of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to audition. AEA members may audition for a possible Guest Appearance Contract. All auditions will be performed at the Middletown Arts Center, located at 36 Church Street in Middletown, NJ (next to the Middletown train station). Free parking is available onsite with additional free parking available in the train station metered lot on weekday evenings after 6:00pm and weekends.
