Thursday, June 8, 2023 - Premiere Stages at Kean University Announces 2023 Premiere Play Festival Finalists. (UNION, NJ) -- Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its four finalists for the 2023 Premiere Play Festival. Now in its 18th year, the Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Delaware. This year's finalists were selected from 701 submissions.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - Princeton Symphony Orchestra Announces Plans for June 9-25 Princeton Festival. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) has announced a compelling line-up of performances for this year's Princeton Festival, the PSO's annual live arts extravaganza. The majority of the Festival takes place June 9-25, 2023 within an enormous tented pavilion erected seasonally on the grounds of Morven Museum & Garden, complete with concessions and gathering spaces. Events range from a beloved comic opera by Gioachino Rossini to independent tributes honoring the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the US, plus orchestral concerts, chamber music and dance, a Juneteenth celebration, a Family Day, and genre-defying performances by top ensembles and three 2023 Grammy Award winners.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - 2023 GRAMMY-Winning Trio Time For Three to Open the Princeton Festival. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- 2023 GRAMMY Award-winning trio Time for Three leads off the Opening Weekend of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra's 2023 Princeton Festival on Friday, June 9 at 7:00pm. Their high-octane eclecticism sets the tone for the 16-day showcase for the performing arts which includes opera, musical theater, orchestral music, Baroque and chamber music, dance, and more. Rounding out the weekend are Aretha, A Tribute on Saturday, June 10 at 7:00pm and a recital by pianist Christopher Taylor on Sunday, June 11 at 4:00pm. All three performances take place in the outdoor performance pavilion on the grounds of beautiful Morven Museum & Garden.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - SOPAC presents its inaugural SOPAC Pride Weekend. (SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- In partnership with North Jersey Pride, the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) presents its inaugural SOPAC Pride Weekend on Friday, June 9 – Saturday, June 11, celebrating SOMA’s robust LGBTQIA+ community. The weekend exclusively features LGBTQIA+ artists, including TikTok comic sensation Jessica Kirson, "far-ranging sonic nomad" (Chicago Tribune) singer-songwriter AKENYA, and DJ Ryan The Person.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - "Stay Behind" takes on Emotional Meltdowns in Existential Comedy. It's Halloween night on a college campus. Marabelle, dressed as a scarecrow in a raincoat, lays down in the college center and refuses to move. She hopes to lie there long enough that she eventually decomposes into the earth. A stranger (Koda) dressed as an angel tells her that she's in his spot.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - 50th Anniversary Tour of "Jesus Christ Superstar" comes to State Theatre June 9-11. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The fully renovated State Theatre New Jersey presents the reimagined 50th Anniversary tour of Jesus Christ Superstar for four performances between June 9-11, 2023. The musical is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes "I Don’t Know How to Love Him," "Gethsemane," and "Superstar."

Saturday, June 10, 2023 - 2023 Passaic County Book Festival to Take Place June 10th. (CLIFTON, NJ) -- The County of Passaic, in conjunction with the PALS Plus Library Consortium, presents the 2023 Passaic County Book Festival at Weasel Brook Park in Clifton on Saturday, June 10th from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Saturday, June 10, 2023 - MKA Educator and Counselor to Debut New Book at the 2023 Passaic County Book Festival. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Melanie Bieber, Primary School Counselor and Tri-Campus Counselor Coordinator at Montclair Kimberley Academy, will be debuting her new book Aaron Daniel Henry Davis: Just Another Day at School at the Passaic County Book Festival on Saturday, June 10th at 1:30pm. Saturday, June 10, 2023 - Slambovian Circus of Dreams to Perform at Roy's Hall on June 10th. Stargazer tells the story of one night in the life of Grace Campbell, a grad student burning with fury about the fate of Cecilia Payne, an astronomer who discovered the nature of the universe - and saw her genius stolen by men. For Grace, history threatens to repeat itself when she's forced to partner with a male journalist.

Tuesday, June 6, 2023 - NJPAC presents a night of fado with Hélder Moutinho and Maria Emília. (NEWARK, NJ) -- New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) welcomes a night of fado with Hélder Moutinho and Maria Emília on Saturday, June 6 at 7:30pm. The singers bring their unique stylings to the Victoria Theater Lizzie & Jonathan Tisch Stage accompanied by expressive Portuguese guitar. Hélder Moutinho evokes love, loss and longing in his beautifully emotional vocals. The magnetic Maria Emília, originally from Brazil, is equally adept at conveying deep melancholy and hopeful joy.

Wednesday, June 7, 2023 - Paper Mill Playhouse Announces Cast and Creative for "Rent". (MILLBURN, NJ) -- Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Wednesday, June 7, 2023 - The Jersey City Comedy Festival Returns June 7-10. Thursday, June 8, 2023 - American Theater Group announces cast of "Right to be Forgotten". (BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- American Theater Group (ATG), a professional regional theater company in Central Jersey, presents Right to Be Forgotten -- a searing new drama by Sharyn Rothstein in June. The show will run June 8-10 at JCC MetroWest in West Orange, NJ and June 15-18 at the Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge. It's a powerful look at today's social media landscape, the drama explores how a young man's mistake at 17 haunts him online a decade later.

Thursday, June 8, 2023 - Gallery Jupiter presents "The Flower Show". Friday, June 9, 2023 - Pioneer Productions to present "Songs for a New World" in Morristown. Attendees will learn to listen to their favorite genre of music and hear the influences of African/African American Spirituals. (TRENTON, NJ) -- The Trenton Film Society presents the 2023 Trenton Film Festival from June 9-11 at the Mill Hill Playhouse, showcasing films from around the world and from our local area as well. Fifty-one films in eleven separate programs range from local to international settings, features to shorts, fiction films to documentaries, using traditional to experimental techniques.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - The Ritz Theatre Company presents "I Hate Hamlet". (HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- The Ritz Theatre Company presents the comedy-drama play I Hate Hamlet from June 9-25, 2023. Friday, June 9, 2023 - American Repertory Ballet to Hold "James Bond-themed" Gala at NBPAC. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- American Repertory Ballet will host its annual fundraiser - a James Bond-themed "Gala Royale"- featuring a festive mix of world premieres, spectacular dancing, and casino excitement on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. All proceeds from this fundraiser support the organization's artistic, educational, and community engagement programs, including over $250,000 in merit and need-based scholarships awarded to students each year.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - Bergen County Players to Present "From Screen to Stage". (ORADELL, NJ) -- Bergen County Players (BCP), one of America's longest-running little theater companies, will present the final production of its successful 90th season, From Screen to Stage from June 9-11, 2023. Reprised from a concept originally seen on their stage in 2010, this is a new chance to see your favorite movie scenes from our American cinematic history come to life on the BCP stage as actors recreate them before your eyes.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - An Interview with Sophia Castuera and Ali Edwards about "august at twenty-two". August at twenty-two is a film about the first year after college. It is centered around a struggling actress named Cal. Her high school soulmate, Jacob, now has a serious girlfriend. As Cal tries to break into the acting world, she also tries to reconnect with Jacob and becomes close with Emily as well. Unfortunately, this leads to Cal neglecting her best friend, Bobby. In between the parties, sexual exploration, and seeing former classmates succeed, Cal faces situations that will likely look familiar to many recent graduates.

Friday, June 9, 2023 - Princeton Makes Artist Cooperative to Host Art Groove on June 9th. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton Makes, a Princeton-based artist cooperative, will host the Art Groove – an evening art making party, on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 6:00pm to 11:00pm at its artist studios and art market in the Princeton Shopping Center. The Art Groove will feature creative activities for children and adults, artists working in their studio, video art screenings, a DJ and live music provided by Jonah Tolchin and others, and a raffle in which people can win artwork from Princeton Makes artists.

Saturday, June 10, 2023 - Somerset Hills Chorus and Rise Up Chorus to present "Annelies". (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Two New Jersey community choirs—the Somerset Hills Chorus and Rise Up Chorus—are combining their forces to present Annelies by contemporary British composer James Whitbourn. The choral work is based on The Diary of Anne Frank, and the libretto, by Melanie Challenger, is largely made up of extracts from the diary. Performances will take place on Saturday, June 10, 7:00pm at the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield and on Sunday, June 11, 5:00pm at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown.

Saturday, June 10, 2023 - American Repertory Ballet presents Premiere3 at NBPAC. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Tripling down on its commitment to dynamic new work, American Repertory Ballet (ARB) returns to the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center June 10-11 with Premiere3, an evocative and intriguing triple bill. The program features world premieres by acclaimed choreographers Ethan Stiefel and Amy Seiwert, and the company premiere of the Arthur Mitchell classic, Holberg Suite.

Saturday, June 10, 2023 - Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company to Perform at The Jamaica Dance Festival. (QUEENS, NY) -- Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will perform at The Jamaica Dance Festival 2023, presented by A Better Jamaica, on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 7:00pm. The festival takes place at Rufus King Park in Jamaica, Queens. The presentation is the Company's third time returning to the festival to meet the diverse audience members of the Jamaica community.

Sunday, June 11, 2023 - North to Shore Festival presents Ladies Night Out Comedy Tour in Atlantic City. (ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) -- Grab your Girls! Sunday, June 11, 2023 - The 2023 T. Thomas Fortune Lecture Series Honors Juneteenth with Harvard University Scholar Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad Addressing the Black Press and the State of Democracy. (RED BANK, NJ) -- The T. Thomas Fortune Foundation is honored to announce Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, a leading scholar as the 2023 T. Thomas Fortune Lecturer. Dr. Muhammad is the former executive director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York. He is currently the Ford Foundation Professor of History, Race, and Public Policy at the Kennedy School at Harvard University. The event kicks off their Juneteenth celebration, a federal holiday commemorating Black liberation from the institution of slavery.

Sunday, June 11, 2023 - Ted Rosenthal Trio to Perform at Jersey Jazz LIVE! in Madison on June 11th. (MADISON, NJ) -- Pianist Ted Rosenthal has released 15 albums as a leader, among them 2014's Rhapsody in Gershwin (Playscape) and 2010's Impromptu (CD Baby). The former featured his arrangement of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" for a jazz trio; the latter demonstrated his reconceptualizing of classical themes for a jazz trio.

Sunday, June 11, 2023 - The Gallery in the Park hosts Meet the Artists Reception and Art Show on June 11th. (SEWELL, NJ) -- There is a new art exhibit at The Gallery in the Park, the outdoor display area at the Amphitheater in Washington Lake Park, and new sculpture gracing the Amphitheater stage. The public placement of artworks is occurring under Painting the Town, a project of the Sustainable Washington Township Creative Team whose mission is to enhance awareness of and participation in the arts in the Township. Participating artists will be recognized at a free reception on June 11, 4:00-6:00pm at the Amphitheater. The public is invited to meet the artists, have a light snack, and listen to the music of Guitarman Bob.

Sunday, June 11, 2023 - Princeton Makes and Ragged Sky Press Host Second Sunday Poetry Reading on June 11th. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton Makes, a Princeton-based artist cooperative, and Ragged Sky Press, a local publisher focused on poetry, will host a Second Sunday Poetry Reading on Sunday, June 11 at 4:00pm. The readings will take place at the Princeton Makes store in the Princeton Shopping Center. The June reading will feature Lavinia Kumar and George Witte. Their readings will be followed by an open mic available to up to 10 audience members who would like to read their original poetry.

Monday, June 12, 2023 - RVCC Robeson Institute to Present Exhibition of Quilts Created by Incarcerated, Free Quilters. (BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- The Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Social Justice at Raritan Valley Community College will present "Stitching Time: The Social Justice Collaboration Quilts Project" from June 12 to July 23. The exhibition, which is open to the public, will be on view in the Art Gallery at RVCC's Branchburg campus.
