(TRENTON, NJ) -- On Sunday, October 1, 2023 at 3:00pm, Richard C. Alston, Pianist will present a range of works by a variety of composers of African heritage at Trinity Cathedral in Trenton. Entitled “Classically Black”, the concert features selections of Nathaniel Dett, William Grant Still, Florence Price, Joseph Bologne—Chevalier de Saint-George, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and others.
Richard C. Alston is a concert pianist, recording artist, musicology lecturer and piano coach currently residing in New Jersey. At the age 17, Alston gave his Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center debut performing Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 1 in Bb Minor, op. 23. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at The Julliard School of Music. Richard Alston has particularly drawn the attention of the musical world, educators and college and university students for bringing awareness to the great contributions to classical music by composers of African descent. His Classically Black award-winning lecture-concert series celebrates the life works of composers of African-American and African-European descent.
Trinity Cathedral, located at 801 West State Street in Trenton, is the home of CAST—the Cathedral Arts Series at Trinity—with roots spanning more than four decades.
