(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- On Saturday, September 24th, Música y Ritmos, the Latin American Music Series co-produced by the Nimbus Arts Center and Segunda Quimbamba Folkloric Center, returns! This free event, held at the Nimbus Arts Center, will feature live music performances, a salsa lesson, artisan vendors, and an open dance floor. Featured performers include Jersey City’s beloved Segunda Quimbamba performing Bomba y Plena: Puerto Rican folk drum music and dance; as well as Los Hermanos Gonzalez, a young band from Utuado, Puerto Rico whose music ranges from Puerto Rican Folk Music to other popular music of Latin America, DJ Carlos Hedricks, and Mike Andino of Estilo Dance will lead the Salsa dance lesson.

The event will offer food trucks, beverages and artisan vendors. Patrons who wish to reserve a table can do so by purchasing a VIP ticket for 2 attendees ($50) which includes 2 drink tickets, table for 2, and access to the VIP lounge.

Música y Ritmos: Latin American Music Series ties together the diverse lineage of Latin-American music created and produced in Jersey City and Hudson County over a 100 year history. The Series is both based in the history and roots of Latin American music in the region and also a celebration of the exceptional local Latinx music artists working today. The September 24th event marks the 3rd annual event of the Música y Ritmos series. Past performers have included Jersey City’s own Segunda Quimbamba, Latin Grammy Winner Pedro Giraudo’s Tango Quartet, and Gabriel Alegrías Afro-Peruvian Jazz Sextet. The next event of the series will take place in March 2023.

Juan Cartagena of Segunda Quimbamba notes, “The lineage of Latin music in Hudson County is multi-layered, and multi-generational. For our people, music is connected to history, culture, family and community. We can’t wait to invite the public to experience the richness of our Música y Ritmos!”

Música y Ritmos is made possible by: New Music USA's new Music Organizational Development Fund, public funds from the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust Fund, and by a grant from New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism. The Media Sponsor of Música y Ritmos is the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce. PHOTOS (TOP) by Hannah Weeks (BOTTOM) courtesy o fLos Hermanos Gonzalez
