(UNION, NJ) -- The acclaimed stage company, The Theater Project, will again bring script in hand performances to Union Township’s Special Improvement District, presenting two short comedies from their Playwrights Workshop for NJ authors. The event will be hosted at Cioffi’s Italian Ristorante on April 27 thanks to the support of the Special Improvement District, and a Union County HEART grant from the Board of Chosen Freeholders. While enjoying the performance at Cioffi’s, theater-goers will also see Union’s growing downtown.
Both short plays were written by members of The Theater Project’s Playwrights Workshop, where local authors meet to develop new material with feedback from other writers, Theater Project directors and actors, and finally, theater audiences. Many plays developed in the workshop have gone on to publication and performances across the United States.
The authors showcased in LOVE AND MARRIAGE are Susan Barsky of Millburn and Luigi Jannuzzi of Hillsborough. Barsky’s plays, which include OWED TO MY FIRST LOVE, THE D WORD and FOWL PLAY, have been performed in New York City and around the country; she is a former recipient of a New Jersey State Arts Council fellowship. Notre Dame graduate Jannuzzi has 27 plays published by Samuel French, including: EXHIBIT THIS! – THE MUSEUM COMEDIES, ALL THE KING’S WOMEN, and FOR THE LOVE OF JULIET. Both writers are members of the Dramatist & Author’s Guild.
Dennis DaPrile of Wall Township will direct the cast which includes Gary Glor of Union, recently featured as GONE WITH THE WIND producer David O. Selznick in The Theater Project’s production of MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS.
The script in hand performance will take place Monday, April 27 at 7:30 at Cioffi’s Italian Ristorante. Patrons are invited to come early and order food or beverages from Cioffi’s extensive menu. Cioffi’s is located at 929 Stuyvesant Ave, Union, NJ. Suggested donation is $10. Tickets available at
TheTheaterProject.org. Information: 908 809-8865.
The event is presented by The Theater Project with support from the Union Special Improvement District, and a HEART Grant (History-Education-Arts-Reaching-Thousands) from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, through a grant administered by the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
