The New Regime Comes To Starland

originally published: 03/30/2016

The New Regime Comes To Starland
(SAYREVILLE, NJ) -- Fresh off the heels of a successful run at SXSW, The New Regime are on a spring tour as direct support for veteran rockers The Used. After a pair of shows at the Playstation Theater in New York, the tour comes to the Starland Ballroom for two sold out shows (April 29-30) before heading to the Electric Factory for a pair of shows in Philadelphia.

In late 2015 The New Regime wrapped a tour in Mexico supporting MUSE after an incredibly busy year touring with Failure, Dead Sara, Drenge, and Gang of Four. Additionally, they released a music video for "We Rise We Fall" off Exhibit B (shown below). The video was directed by award-winning director and photographer Tamar Levine, and Nine Inch Nails & How To Destroy Angels creative director and collaborator Rob Sheridan.

Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist and songwriter, Ilan Rubin is best known for his drumming with Nine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves and Paramore, but it can be argued that his best work happens when this one-man-band is fronting and backing - The New Regime. Attendees of the upcoming tour with The Used will get a unique live music experience - with Rubin on guitar/vocals fronting a 3-piece band. The addition of a full band allows for a raw, dynamic representation of his music, packed with improvisations and embellishments expanding beyond the recorded material. Rubin's commanding stage presence will shock those used to seeing him behind a drum-set.

The New Regime released Exhibit B on March 31, 2015, which is available for purchase via iTunes.

Exhibit B is the name of The New Regime's new eight-song EP, which Rubin wrote and recorded almost entirely while touring with NIN in 2013-14. And it was on that tour that Rubin got to stretch his wings onstage as well. "When I first toured with Nine Inch Nails in 2009, Trent knew that I could play piano, so wherever there was a piano part, I would take it over," he says. "On the last tour, the band was down to a four-piece, so we needed to distribute parts as best we could. There were a lot of moments when I played bass and guitar and some keyboards. And I think that was a big help in getting people to see a bit more of what I'm about as a musician."

Given what his night job was at the time, you might expect the results of his day-lighting to sound Trent-influenced. Perhaps you'll find some of that in there, but you may be more immediately struck by the old-school classicism of Rubin's approach. Singles "Strong-Arm Tomorrow," "Where I've Headed All Along," "Mannequin" and "We, Rise, We Fall" can be streamed on Yahoo!, Entertainment Weekly, Kerrang! and Alternative Press, respectively.

Rubin topped the charts as Tom DeLonge's collaborator in Angels & Airwaves' The Dream Walker. Released this past December, The Dream Walker hit No. 3 on Billboard's Top Indie Album Chart and No. 5 on the Alternative Chart. It also went to No. 1 on iTunes in 14 countries. Additionally, he recently played drums on the Haim/M83 Insurgenttrack, "Holes In The Sky."
