SOPAC Presents The Manhattans

(SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- Acclaimed Grammy Award-winning R&B group, The Manhattans, take the SOPAC stage on Friday, September 11th at 8:00 p.m. Their tight harmonies and roster of hit songs such as “Shining Star”, “There’s No Me Without You”, and “Kiss and Say Goodbye” have earned the adulation of fans throughout past decades. Originally from Jersey City, the group has earned a place in the roster of R&B greats and earned a Grammy Award for “Shining Star,” along with many of their other songs going Silver, Gold and Platinum.  Tickets are $55-$85 and can be purchased online at SOPACnow.org, or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.

The Manhattans have had an illustrious career since their first single, “For the Very First Time,” was released in 1964. After the song swept the radio stations, the group embarked on a college tour, where they first connected with featured singer Gerald Alston, formerly of The Imperials. Best known for his solo singles “Take Me Where You Want To” and “Slow Motion.”, Alston and his association with Motown Records helped the group soar into the 70s and 80s with such hits as “Kiss and Say Goodbye” and “Shining Star.”

Their musical prominence has crossed over to the television screen well into the 2000s, where they have had their music featured on television shows such as 666 Park Avenue, The Vampire Diaries, and Cold Case

Opening for the Manhattans is the Newark-based The Silver Stars. Growing up in the projects of Newark during the 60s was filled with danger for these young boys. Making music became the lifeline for this trio and they have stayed together through thick and thin. The group has shared the stage with many of their early inspirations including Ben E. King, the O’Jays and the Delfonics. In 2014 they celebrated 35 years of making sweet music together and show no signs of slowing down.

The Manhattans and The Silver Stars will delight audiences with their their classy, fun, and soulful musical stylings as they share the SOPAC stage in their home state of New Jersey Friday, September 11, at 8 pm in what will undoubtedly be a memorable musical night. Tickets are $55-$85, and can be purchased online at SOPACnow.org, or at the box office at (973) 313-2787.
