Somerset Valley Players To Hold Auditions For "The MatchKlatch Game"

originally published: 12/28/2020

Somerset Valley Players have issued an audition notice for "The MatchKlatch Game" - a parody of the TV Game Show “The Match Game.” Auditions will take place via ZOOM on Sunday, January 10th and Tuesday, January 12th between 7:00pm and 10:00pm. Males and females aged 20 and older are needed.  Audition times will be reserved by Signup Genius.

It's up to each actor auditioning as a celebrity panelist to decide what celebrity they wish to impersonate.  Please come prepared with your own creation of a celebrity (fictional or historical, dead or alive, athlete, actor, singer, performer, politician, comedian, stage character, you know… a “celebrity” or well known “character”).  One celebrity impersonation is required but please feel free to prepare 2 or 3 personalities of your choice.  Actors with multiple submissions may be considered for multiple match games played during the evening.

Most important is the ability to make fun of the celebrity (yourself), in addition to your peers, in a manner that is not mean-spirited.  Also try to exhibit as many of the celebrity personality quirks and body language/movements as possible. Come up with a costume of your own choice that is fun and representative of the person you are impersonating.  Don’t go over the top as costumes, wigs, and makeup are yours as SVP will not be able to compensate you for these items.  This is for fun!

Celebrity Panelists should be witty and quick thinkers. You should be comfortable with improv and be able to bring your character to life – while also playing the game correctly.  Answers should be simple and clever, like the real Match Game – not too long and drawn out.

SVP will have at least two rehearsals so everyone can see how the Zoom session will work.  The live Zoom session for an evening of fun will take place on Sunday, January 31st at 7:00pm.  The intention is to play 2 or 3 or more games, if possible, in a 90 minute or less session.  The contestants and audience members will be invited SVP patrons.

Somerset Valley Players started out amidst a PTA group at Van Derveer Elementary School in Somerville started a thespian troupe; in 1967 the curtain went up on their first show. This group of volunteers put on one production a year in the beginning that increased to three shows, including their first musical, Guys and Dolls, performed in 1971. Although being able to stage their productions at many temporary homes, having a theater of their own was a distant, yet tantalizing, dream. After a long search, SVP purchased the one-room schoolhouse on Amwell Road; and in 1980, along with all of their props, scenery, furniture, and costumes, they moved into their new home. Over the next five years, members spent countless hours renovating the building. Finally, in January of 1985, SVP opened the doors of the Somerset Valley Playhouse to a full house. The first show in their new theater, mirroring their beginnings, was Guys and Dolls. And the rest, as they say, is history.
