RVCC to Present Virtual Dance Concert Featuring Student, Faculty Dance Films

originally published: 01/12/2021

(BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- Raritan Valley Community College will present the “RVCC DanceWorks Virtual Concert,” an evening highlighting new student and faculty dance films from the Fall 2020 Semester, January 29 at 7:00pm. The event will be broadcast on the RVCC Dance YouTube Channel

The virtual concert will premiere short films that feature movement as their central theme. The films were created solely for the screen and offer an interpretive framework to view movement and film.

Pieces from RVCC’s Choreography class will be presented, each focusing on different elements of camera work, thematic material and editing. In addition, student films from outside the class were selected for inclusion, as the students contributed their unique expression and transformed their movement onto the screen.

The student films featured in the Virtual Concert include “Water Unknown” by Dree Dray, “Sad Forever” by Mark Negron, “Frustration” by Cedric Thomas, “La danse des piégés” by Eva Sandoval, and “w(eight)ait” by RVCC Dance alumna Michelle Lukach.

The program also will include the faculty work “Terpsichore's Sacrilegium” by Professor Loretta Fois. The piece examines how our present condition has exposed the extreme precarity of the arts, and explores what happens when the performances pause, seasons are suspended, and stages go dark. The work is danced by RVCC adjunct faculty member Lauren Beirne and was filmed entirely on the RVCC campus. The film was selected for the 2021 Women's International Film Festival and is a finalist in the Athens International Art Film Festival.
