(LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ) -- Rider Theatre presents Georges Feydeau’s comedy, A Flea in Her Ear, in the Theater in the Bart Luedeke Center on the campus of Rider University in Lawrenceville from April 4 through April 8. Part bedroom farce, part drawing room farce — “A Flea in Her Ear” is full of suspicion, mischief, nonstop amorous chaos, mistaken identities, slamming doors and chases that will unapologetically hoist you onto tenterhooks. This hilarious play once delighted all of Paris and solidified a genre that would become a comic forerunner of the Absurdist theatre.
“This is historically one of the theater’s great farces,” Gill says. “Feydeau wrote over 70 plays, with around 26 commercial hits. This was one of his biggest successes. It truly set the stage for a lot of comedies that followed it.”
Carter Gill, comedic performer, director and teacher, is currently on faculty at NYU-Tisch School of the Arts, Pace University, Rider University and the Studio/New York and served as provisional faculty under the auspices of Christopher Bayes at Yale School of Drama and the Juilliard School. He is an Edith Wharton award recipient, and he trained as apprentice to Christopher Bayes for many years, becoming one of a handful of teachers Bayes has mentored. He received his M.F.A. in acting from the Yale School of Drama, his B.F.A. in directing from Southern Methodist University, and Shakespeare training from the British American drama academy.
A preview performance will be held Wednesday, April 4 at 7:30pm, and performances will be Thursday, April 5 at 7:30pm; Friday, April 6 at 7:30pm; Saturday, April 7 at 2:00pm and 7:30pm; and Sunday, April 8 at 2:00pm. The production, directed by Carter Gill, will be performed by Rider University students.
Rider University’s Theatre program has a rich tradition of preparing students for successful careers in all aspects of the theatre.
