NJ Governor Proclaims October "Discover Jersey Month"

(BURLINGTON, NJ) -- New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has officially proclaimed October 2015 as “Discover Jersey Arts Month.” Held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month, Discover Jersey Arts Month is a collective celebration of the joy, entertainment and enrichment the arts bring to the state’s diverse communities.

“We are truly appreciative of Governor Christie’s acknowledgement of how vital the arts are to our state, and welcome everyone to get out and enjoy our amazing cultural institutions during this state-wide, month-long salute,” said Adam Perle, President & CEO of ArtPride New Jersey Foundation. “With more than 25,000 arts-related businesses that call New Jersey home, there are great arts destinations to discover around the corner and across the state.”

Intended to encourage all New Jerseyans to explore the arts throughout the Garden State, Discover Jersey Arts Month also highlights the often overlooked economic, educational and civic engagement values that the arts impart in our lives.

“The arts are an integral part of our daily lives, not only as citizens of New Jersey, but as citizens of the world,” said Nick Paleologos, Executive Director of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. “As Governor Christie points out in his proclamation, the arts affect every aspect of our lives – from supporting economic vitality to improving education, building healthy and dynamic communities, creating jobs and bolstering tourism.”

Community members are invited to commemorate Discover Jersey Arts Month by taking part in the arts around the state and sharing their experiences with their friends. In conjunction with Discover Jersey Arts Month, ArtPride New Jersey is holding a social media contest where participants share photos of where they’re experiencing awesome N.J. arts. Three winners will be chosen each week to receive a Discover Jersey Arts prize pack. Complete details can be found at JerseyArts.com/ArtoberNJ
