Nimbus Dance Works Holds SummerArts Instruction For Ages 4-11

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- With instruction in various styles of dance, theater, choral music, and fine art, JC SummerArts provides an in-depth experience in the arts from process to refinement to performance. Classes are taught by working professional artists, including members of Nimbus Dance Works' outstanding professional dance company. 

Emphasis is placed on individual student attention and small class sizesengagement with process and foundation for technique and artistry, and creating a positive and fun environmentfor our young campers! Each week culminates with a final performance showcasing the work camp students have accomplished. In addition to focused studio time, students spend outdoor time at the park (cooling off in the water sprinklers!); other highlights include Ice Cream Fridays, headshot photos of each student, and more!

Ages: 4-11 (students placed in appropriate age groups)

Description of Camp Weeks:

Week 1 - Dancing through the Decades - July 24-28

The twist, disco fever, the thriller, voguing, hip hop, house...dance your way through time in week 1 of JC Summer Arts. Learn classic moves and songs associated with the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. The week will culminate in an epic performance overflowing with style and groove.

Week 2 -  The Wizard of Oz - July 31 - August 4

Follow the yellow brick road to a week of creativity and fun. Students will be immersed in the colorful, magical land of OZ as they make friendships as strong as Dorothy, Cowardly Lion,Tin-man and Scarecrow. A fully produced adaptation of Frank Baum’s original Wizard of Oz will be performed through spoken word, song and dance at the end of the week.

Week 3 - Pop Star Week - August 7 - 11

Channel your inner diva in week 3 of JC Summer Arts! Learn the upbeat, catchy songs and perfect the signature dance moves of stars like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Britney Spears and many others. By the end of the week you will be ready to shine in a spotlight of your own!

Week 4 - Arabian Nights - August 14 - 18

Adventure, intrigue, mystery are in full force during Week 4 of JC SummerArts. Escape the hot summer sun and become spellbound by the entrancing stories of Arabian Nights. Students will navigate their way through these literary narratives with dance and song in a theatrical retelling of these beloved tales from the Middle East and South Asia.

Week 5 - ¡Vamos a Bailar! / Let's Dance! - August 21 - 25

Your moves will be muy caliente after this Espanol/English dual-language week at JC SummerArts! Learn dances like Salsa and Rhumba to the music of current latin pop stars like Selena, JLo and Marc Anthony. Every day is a party when you get to dance, sing and act! Hablamos Espanol y Ingles in this dual language camp week.

Week 6 - Beauty and the Beast - August 28 - September 1

Be enchanted by this tale as old as time! Just like Belle and the Prince, go through a transformation of your own as you grow leaps and bounds as a dancer, singer and actor. By the end of the week, students will be twirling and trilling their way through this classic tale of integrity and friendship!
