Mayo Presents Randy Newman

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Emmy, Oscar and Grammy-winning composer and songwriter Randy Newman performs at Mayo Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 8:00pm. With songs that run the gamut from heartbreaking to satirical and a host of unforgettable film scores, Randy Newman has used his many talents to create musical masterpieces widely recognized by generations of audiences. Tickets range from $49-99.

"Randy Newman is a national treasure," said Don Henley of The Eagles about Randy Newman in an interview in the Los Angeles Times.  "He's a songwriter's songwriter; a musician's musician. He's also probably the most misunderstood and underappreciated recording artist alive.

After starting his songwriting career as a teenager, Newman launched into recording as a singer and pianist in 1968 with his self-titled album Randy Newman. Throughout the 1970s he released several other acclaimed albums such as: 12 Songs, Sail Away, and Good Old Boys.

In addition to his solo recordings and regular international touring, Newman began composing and scoring for films since the 1980s. The list of movies he has worked includes The Natural, Awakenings, Ragtime, all three Toy Story pictures, Seabiscuit, James and the Giant Peach, A Bug's Life, and most recently, Disney/Pixar's Monsters University, the prequel to Monsters Inc. (which he also scored).

Dark Matter, his most recent release, is his first release since 2008.

The Newton Theatre presents Jim Messina

(NEWTON, NJ) -- Few musical artists résumés list membership in a band inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; fewer still can lay claim to being a founding member of the seminal band credited with creating Country Rock; and only one artist can include all the above in addition to being one half of the most successful duos of the 1970s: Jim Messina. He's been a member of Buffalo Springfield and would go on to form the band Poco and then Loggins & Messina with Kenny Loggins.
