Lang Lang International Music Foundation To Host Summer Training In Newark

originally published: 07/29/2019

(NEWARK, NJ) -- As arts educations funds are cut from public schools nationwide, The Lang Lang International Music Foundation is trying to fill the gap.  On July 30th and 31st from 9:00am til 5:00pm, The Lang Lang International Music Foundation will host summer training for their Keys of Inspiration program at First Avenue School in Newark.

During the training, teachers from underserved and underfunded schools across the nation gather to train in Lang Lang's Piano Method curriculum. The Foundation provides each school with a grant valued at $50,000 and up to 30 electric pianos through a partnership with Roland. Recent research has shown music instruction improves children’s communication skills, attention, and memory.

Lang Lang is arguably the worlds most recognizable classical pianist, starting his training as a young boy he understands how music can improve a child's life. The Keys of Inspiration program is able to reach students of all backgrounds and give them a chance to experience the power of music.

Keys of Inspiration(R) is an innovative program designed to redefine what music education looks like in American public schools. KOI weaves rigorous, keyboard-centric, musical instruction into selected Title 1 public schools’ mandatory curriculum––integrating group piano classes for grades 2-5, twice a week.

Keys of Inspiration(R), a partner of the GRAMMY(R) Music Education Coalition, is a public school music education intervention program, created to inspire change from within. With KOI, we provide a safe, creative outlet for emotional release in schools while delivering a rigorous music education program that supports student achievement in music, as well as overall academic and social performance.
