The Northeast Premiere of One Little Finger (Ability in Disability)

originally published: 10/28/2019

(HOPEWELL, NJ) -- The Northeast Premiere of One Little Finger (Ability in Disability) will take place on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00pm at Hopewell Theater. In the film, Raina, an American neurologist, uproots her life to research music therapy in India, and finds herself teaching children and adults with disabilities. By bringing them together through music and inspiring them to challenge themselves through their abilities, their lives are transformed.

One Little Finger, written and directed by Rupam Sarmah, has received worldwide recognitions and is blessed with over 27 laurels including Best Feature, Best Inspirational Film, Best Music, Best Director, Best Song, Best Actor, Human Rights Award.  It is based on real-life stories of persons with disabilities and includes a cast of over 80 children and adults with disabilities.

The cast features Tamela D'Amico, Siedah Garrett, Jonathan Stoddard, Den, Abhinaya, Jaya Seal Ghosh, Malaya Goswami, Soumili Ghosh, and Pabitra Rabha. Original Score by Stephen Melillo and Rupam Sarmah and music directed by Rupam Sarmah.  The soundtrack includes music by Quincy Jones, Julian Lennon, Siedah Garrett, Kechi Okwuchi, Stephen Melillo, Kevin Mackie, Peter Banks, and Ruth Weber.

"One Little Finger makes a point to show that a person with a disability is also a person with many abilities. Through love, acceptance, and understanding, it provides a world without exclusion and judgment. When we reach out towards each other, we celebrate the gift of life,” said Julian Lennon.

One Little Finger is a Narrative Feature film (English) in order to bring awareness about disability and human rights, and to promote inclusion and diversity. Over 80 children and adults with disabilities have acted in this film. Some of them have genetic disorders, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, mental retardation, autism, down syndrome, multiple sclerosis, dementia, etc. Over a billion people live with some form of disability. One child in twenty is disabled, but physical disability is not a chance, or unfortunate occurrence. It is part of the human life cycle as we age or take turns in our life. In fact, we all know someone or our loved ones in our family with some disabilities who needs our love — could be our parents, friends, brothers, sisters, children; so we need to treat everyone with love and respect as a human being!
