Gordon Lightfoot To Return To Newton Theatre On August 7

(Newton, NJ) --  With a repertoire that includes such all-time classics as Sundown, If You Could Read My Mind and The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald, esteemed singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot returns to the Newton Theatre with an incredibly moving performance on Friday, August 7th at 8:00 pm.

An Evening with Gordon Lightfoot will feature his well known hits and some deep album cuts, woven together with behind-the-scenes stories and personal anecdotes about his historic musical career.

During fifty years of hit song making and international album sales well into the multi-millions Lightfoot has recorded 20 albums and has five Grammy nominations. His songs have been aired consistently for fifty years.

Aside from his success in writing, singing and performing his own music, Lightfoot's songs have been recorded and performed by some of the greatest of all time including: Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Jr., Jerry Lee Lewis, Judy Collins, Eric Clapton, Johnny Mathis, Olivia Newton-John, Barbra Streisand, Peter Paul & Mary, Harry Belafonte, Jane’s Addiction, Richie Havens, Glen Campbell, Toby Keith, and Alison Krauss.

In June of 2012 Lightfoot's legacy was further enhanced when he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Lightfoot was honored for his role in defining the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and '70s.

In his native Canada, Lightfoot is a hero, bestowed with a Governor's General Award, Canadian honor of merit, 17 Juno Awards (Canada’s equivalent to the Grammys), he’s a member of Canada's Walk of Fame and The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2007, Canada Post honored him by issuing an official Gordon Lightfoot postage stamp. Lightfoot is also in the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Gordon Lightfoot is an indelible part of the Canadian national spirit and regarded as perhaps the most prolific and greatest Canadian singer-songwriter of all time.

Tickets for Gordon Lightfoot range from $52.00 to $77.00 and may be purchased by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the Box Office at 973-383-3700.
