Crossroads Theatre Company Returns Downtown For The 2019-20 Season

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Crossroads Theatre Company is returning to the downtown area for the 2019-20 season which will take place in the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.  The season includes Paul Robeson by Phillip Hayes Dean, A Christmas Carol - a musical based on the story by Charles Dickens, and the World Premiere of Freedom Rider.

Paul Robeson by Phillip Hayes Dean kicks off the season in the new Arthur Laurents Theatre September 5-15. Directed by Marshall Jones, III, the glorious and complicated life of scholar/athlete/activist Paul Robeson is brought to life on stage in honor of the 100th Anniversary of his graduation from Rutgers University.

The holiday classic, A Christmas Carol, runs December 5-15 in the Elizabeth Ross Johnson Theater. Based on the story by Charles Dickens, the production will be directed by Marshall Jones, III.  It is a musical multi-cultural celebration dramatizing the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge featuring music by Alan Menkin, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and book by Lynn Ahrens and Mike Ockrent.

Closing out the season is the World Premiere of Freedom Rider in the Arthur Laurents Theatre April 9-19. Set in 1961, this story of young people – both black and white – embark on southbound buses on a journey to fight for social justice and prove that love conquers hate.   The production, conceived and directed by Ricardo Khan, was written by Kathleen McGhee-Anderson, Murray Horwitz, Nathan Louis Jackson, Ricardo Khan and Nikkole Salter.
