(CINNAMINSON, NJ) -- A moving and tuneful musical with a score that evokes a sense of the American spirit, VIOLET opens Burlington County Footlighters' 79th year with performances from September 16 – October 1, 2016.
Based on Doris Betts' short story, The Ugliest Pilgrim, this acclaimed musical with a score by Tony Award-winning composer Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home, Thoroughly Modern Millie) and book & lyrics by Brian Crawley tells the story of a disfigured young woman who embarks on a journey from her home in North Carolina to Oklahoma, hoping a preacher there can heal her. Among her fellow bus passengers are two soldiers who join her on an unexpected journey of self-discovery.
Directed by Marlton resident Brian Blanks, assisted by musical director Cameron Stringham of Cinnaminson and choreographer Rachel Smith of West Manayunk, the production features a cast including Roxanne Paul of Gloucester City as Violet; Darryl S. Thompson, Jr. of Delran as Flick; Brandon Zebley of Philadelphia as Monty; Emily Orlowski of Turnersville as Young Violet; Chuck Klotz of Woodbury as Father; Gabrielle Affleck of Philadelphia as the Old Lady; Michael Gearty of Philadelphia as the Preacher; Nicholas Zoll of Delanco as Virgil; Alex Davis of Riverside as the Music Hall Singer; Taylor Pickett-Stokes of Trenton as Lula Buffington; and Glenn Paul of Titusville as the Radio Soloist.
Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm; Sunday, September 18 at 7 pm and Sunday, September 25 at 2 pm. The Playhouse is located at 808 Pomona Road in Cinnaminson, NJ.
