Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story

Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story

Meanwhile in Mansquan, another legend from the early days of rock ‘n roll hits the stage when the Algonquin Arts Theatre presents Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story from April 1-9.

Before the Beatles or the Stones ever played a note, rock & roll was born and popular music was forever changed by the bespectacled kid from Lubbock, Texas - Buddy Holly.

Get ready to rock as you watch Buddy backstage and at the recording studio. Follow his rise up the charts from his humble country music roots to hits like “Peggy Sue,” “Oh Boy,” and “Maybe Baby.”

Buddy tells the true story of the artist’s meteoric rise to fame, from the moment in 1957 when “That’ll be the Day” hit the airwaves until his tragic death less than two years later on ‘The Day the Music Died.’

Written by Alan Janes, the production stars Jared Mancuso as Buddy Holly.  Members of his band, The Crickets, are played by Nathan Yates Douglass, Aidan Dougherty, and Jason Cohen. The cast also includes Stephen Rubino, Lynne Truex, Hudson Eder, Brendan Flanagan, Nick Foster, Kelliann Decarlo, Jan Topoleski, Danielle Richards, Vicki Lee, Zachary James, Willie Naess, Christy Rak, and Julia Lupi.

Mancuso is no stranger to portraying Buddy Holly. He has not only played him before in other productions of The Buddy Holly Story, but has his own show - Not Fade Away: The Ultimate Buddy Holly Tribute.

Ironically, fellow cast member Jason Cohen played Jerry Lee Lewis in the national tour of Million Dollar Quartet.

The Algonquin Arts Theatre is located at 173 Main Street in Manasquan.
