Blue Curtain Presents A Free Concert On July 11 In Princeton

(Princeton, NJ) -- Aurelio, a dedicated cultural advocate and musical innovator, makes music that is a breezy, percussive mix of Caribbean, Central American, and West African elements. Aurelio will bring the soulful music is the sound of the Garifuna.

Aurelio will bring the soulful music of the Garifuna to Princeton when Blue Curtain presents the international world music superstar from Honduras on a double bill with the Brazilian choro group Regional de NY on Saturday, July 11, 7:00 p.m. at Pettoranello Gardens, Community Park North, Route 206 and Mountain Avenue, Princeton. Blue Curtain concerts are FREE and include free refreshments.

World music journalist Banning Eyre, describes Garifuna music as having "mysterious Afro-Caribbean roots, with West African rhythms, a Latin lilt and flavors of reggae and calypso. At the core is a unique language and poetic tradition, focused on the hard lives of disempowered people who live at the mercy of the sea."

Aurelio is known for his vibrant and captivating musical performances. He has dedicated his talent, vision, and charisma to ensuring that the Garifuna tradition survives, and this is evident in his songs as well as his stage presence. “I know I must continue the culture of my grandparents, of my ancestors, and find new ways to express it,” he says. “Few people know about it, but I adore it, and it’s something I must share with the world.”

Concert-goers are encouraged to come early and enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting and amphitheater at Pettoranello Gardens. The concert series presented by Blue Curtain and Princeton Recreation Department is FREE and open to the public.
